Supporting a candidate or political party is very tangential to actual change. ANY politician in office is equally capable of making the correct decision given enough information (though it's true some won't). Money used for lobbying beats funding candidates outright. Even if it's less successful, it's overall more ethical.

In other words, playing 480p Wii content over HDMI will still look nicer. Black level was a poor choice of wording, but the ADC in my TV is lousy and buying a new Wii with HDMI will make my problems go away.

I don't want my Wii content up-scaled so much as presented to my TV with larger square pixels. No idea if Wii U will output 1080p all the time such that 480p Wii content is scaled to 960p with black bars or if it switches display modes to 480p and leaves the rest up to the TV.

HDMI 1.3 has more than the NTSC color range in its gamut. Not sure if deep color will be used by Wii U, but certainly wouldn't be for existing Wii games. There's also issues with saturation levels and overall brightness in the NTSC spec (enforced to prevent phosphor bleed) that affect component but don't affect HDMI.

For the Wii U, there is. And running Dolphin on a PC set to 1x native resolution gives a pretty accurate gauge to compare with. Well, CRT isn't capable of the level of sharpness I'm wanting on my Wii on a 1080p flat panel.

What you're saying, probably, is that you can't tell the difference between VGA (roughly equivalent to component, if not better) or DVI/HDMI on a digital flat panel. That's fine for you, but not for me. Eye fatigue from trying to refocus the slight blur of the VGA signal is gone with a digital connection for me. And again, black levels are an issue with analog sources.

Is making a bookmark infringement? What if I print the URL on paper? Is it just making the link clickable? What if I change that link to plain text and tell people to copy and paste it into their address bar?

I think Google should just block all Dutch IP's effective immediately. See what a web without linking is really like. When the court ruling is reversed, Google access is restored.

  10. Re:Monster cable on Nintendo WiiU Price and Release Date Announced · · Score: 2

Now that's just crazy talk. A 50ft HDMI cable presents no loss in the digital signal. It matters not that the signal is degraded, because the 1's and 0's are perfectly preserved. Component always loses quality over distance. Higher quality cable less so, but it's inherent in the system.

What are you saying about balanced cables? Balanced cables are designed specifically for long distance. The two opposite ground wires cancel out the induced noise. Balanced vs. unbalanced is hardly important for short runs, but for long runs you need a balanced connection to eliminate interference. This is why Cat5 uses twisted pairs.

Component video and HDMI may not make a big difference in picture quality for SD content, but it's enough for me to see and care about. Especially color gamut and contrast. With component, you're stuck with the NTSC gamut, and you can't get true blacks. The TV's signal processor can make up for this, but this varies widely from TV to TV.
