  3. What about calculators and math? etc. on Kids and Computers · · Score: 2

    Howdy all!

In High School, I purposely chose NOT to use a calculator for 3 years. The only ones I would occasionally use were basic =-*/ calculators so that I could do long division and multiplication quickly.

Otherwise, I did all forms of slope-intercept form, geometry, Algebra II plus some of the regression formulas by hand!.

I learned a whole lot more from this than if I had chosen to copy the program the teachers gave us to plug into the TI-82+ calculators that everyone was required to buy!

It used to drive my teachers crazy when I wouldn't use a calculator on work.

The only hard part was Physics because of all those formulas, but then, memorize them and you can do those by hand also.

Has anyone else done stuff like this?

Also, I was one of the few people that actually wanted to learn (especially about science/technology/computers).

About Reading, Writing, and Grammar. What's the use of learning Grammar if you can have a Grammar check on the computer. Or Spelling for that matter with Spell Check in all MSFT product!. Why learn how to write if you can use a computer?

Granted that one must learn how to use the computer but one must also not be absolute in one or the other.

What attitude do you give an audience if you are reading Shakespeare when you are reading it off of a screen compared to the old-time book? I believe reading out of book causes a better response from an audience (IMHO)

  7. Re:legal problems with freenet on Is Freenet Vapourware? Ian Clarke Responds · · Score: 2

    Howdy!

And just how will they find out you are running a Freenet node?

There have been many ideas tossed around on the Freenet mailing lists since this article appeared.

First, Freenet randomly selects an unused port during setup. Will they PortScan from 1.1.1.1-254.254.254.254? and ports 1-65535?
    a) that will take forever, b) many admins will get pissed at them.

    Second, And more important,
The article states on Page 2
"""People claim if you don't know the original provider on Freenet, you can't do anything," Hill
said. "When all these people are running Freenet, we connect to each one of them, throw in a query and if a particular node responds to that key, we consider that IP address to be infringing. ""

Well, Since the mere action of querying a node for a key can cause information not previously stored on that node to get a copy for it's use, this is Entrapment!! Illegal in all manners!

Third, False nodes running on lower port numbers that may or may not be running on actual freenet node computers will cause an exessive amount of false-positives.

    Thnx,
    Fuller

I would like to return all emails and explain what's going on but that's impossible when I receive 300 emails a day. I also hesitate to respond because I am more frustrated than all of the MP3 enthusiasts that are not able to purchase the Mambo-X. I am frustrated because whenever the factory notified us of the shipping date, something always came up. I just took a trip to the factory overseas. I saw the actual sample working. I think the best answer for "why" is that we developed Mambo-X from the ground up. As a result, it has taken much longer than we expected. We did once think about abandoning this project, but the overwhelming response from the MP3 enthusiasts resellers made us focus and move on; even though it has been delayed and delayed. Now we come to a point where I must lay out the facts. The mechanical sample was already done and working samples, as of today, are in assembly. The first scheduled production will be the week of April 17th. In other words, the factory will start shipping later that week. Once the mechanical sample is completed, it means that most of the development is done and we shall let the working samples do the fine-tuning. I saw the mechanical sample, so the shipping date is not far away. I sincerely apologize for any anxiety, confusion, or concerns that all of you, the MP3 enthusiasts, have put up with during the Mambo-X development. Once again, thank you for your support.
