    Or, Employer shill can pose as an ecstatic employee and pump it up.

    They already do - it's called a Dutch Auction, and the rules are quite different.

    I've been to "auctions" where the auctioneer has auctioned off the first item as though it was the only one and then told the audience he'd sell any number of the item at that price. No creditable auctioneer would do this.

    DC has some bad points, a couple of which are 1: the difficulty of disconnecting a circuit carrying a heavy load (AC current goes to 0volts 120 times/sec), 2: voltage transformation.

    About AC losses in long xmission lines - the inductance of a several-mile-long wire is substantial even at 60hz, and accounts for a measurable part of losses as I remember.

    In the geek/male world I think one of the highest complements to a person is to have their work talked about, criticized, etc.

    For me it's the same as erecting a monument.

    At least these comments weren't about PKzip 8(.

    I think /. ought to start charging protection money. At least they could offer to upgrade equipment (for a tidy fee) to underpowered sites just before unleashing the hacking hordes of hashdom.

    It's gotten a bunch of us to check out there web site - that's a very powerful device!
