Windows systems have all kinds of reserved rights for UIDs below 1000, so this is a good step as far as that's concerned. Is it a concession? I don't think so. It might be kind of a pain, but really how hard is the find command to search for and replace UIDs and GIDs on a system. Don't you do that sort of thing for fun anyway?
