  1. Yes! I Second the Arrogance Comment! on Intelligence In The Cosmos: Flesh or Machine? · · Score: 2

Has it occurred to anyone that maybe we are being quaranteened so that dumb ideas like car insurance, lawyers, taxes, god, and Microsoft Bob don't get out?

I mean think about it: You pull into orbit over this rock and you see a bunch of hairless apes stuck in traffic, or shooting at each other, or working, or downloading pictures of other hairless apes having the kind of fabulous sex you wish your girlfriend and her sister would give you!

We hairless apes are the only species on the planet stupid enough to have contorted all of the fun stuff into crimes and left debt peonage slavery as the rule instead of making IT an actionable crime!

If the poles are correct half of Americans believe in Angels and most of the other half think that the X-Files is a documentary series. Just for grins you try to talk to us. But not being human you don't care what happened yesterday on the Young and Restless, or what the score was, or what Jesus said. And then you stumble across a country music station...

So you give up on the apes and you zoom in a little closer to the ants. The ants don't have religion but they do have warfare, slavery, sanitation, agriculture, animal husbandry, and central heating and air conditioning {Discovery channel rules}. Scaled to size they have the most advanced physical infrastructure on the planet. They grow specific flowers just so they can get high off of the smell. They hunt in an organized military fashion and take extreme measures NOT to over hunt or over pollute their territory. They DO strictly control there population growth. These guys are light years ahead of the apes but they aren't very conversational and they are obsessed with the crumbs under the dashboard of your Sport Model {slick name given to the recovered Roswell craft}.

So you look to the water. The dolphins are the smartest. They have devoted their entire existence to living it up. They average up to 36 sex acts per day with as many different partners and spend the rest of the time doing back flips and killing other fish for sport. So you open a dialog with them and learn that they are perfectly happy swimming around on earth and they don't need a lift to another planet's ocean.

    So you move on...

  4. Be Like Bill... on Geek's Startup Business Experiences · · Score: 1

    Be like Bill Gates:

    1) Be born with venture capital: Mr. Gates was born with a generation skipping trust fund willed to him from his Grandfather's succesful banking enterprise. This gave him the flash cash to acquire MS-DOS when he knew IBM was looking.

    2) Know the right people: Bill knew IBM was looking for an OS because his mother knew the CEO of IBM personally through her seat on the board of directors of the Red Cross {or Salvation Army or whatever charity that was}.

If you manage to screw these two simple things up then you have an uphill battle on your hands...

    --Richard

P.S. But seriousely: I'm not a Bill Gate's fan per-se; I really do believe he is the Ringo Starr of the information age. But I admire like heck his ability to admit a mistake and turn his entire company on a dime to correct it...

  5. The United States is NOT a Democracy on XXX!!: Sex and Free Speech · · Score: 1

Uhhm, sorry sport, but we're not a Democracy. According to the Constitution and the CIA we are a Republic {the CIA lists us as a "Federal Republic with strong democratic traditions" in the World Factbook at www.cia.gov}. As we don't have a complete set of the 'strong traditions' itemized in writing they don't stand up too well in court and they are always subject to the prevailing social winds. In form and function we are a Republic. This is why puritanical, close minded, zenophobes constantly get away with dictating what we can and cannot do and see.

This of course begs the question: What is a Republic? The term "Republic" is a marketing buzzword for the term "Oligarchy" {rule by a few}. If/when they declassify "The Big Boy Handbook" you'll be able to read the definition of a Republic for yourself: Oligarchy + Ruling Myth == Legitimized Republic.

Oligarchy is self explanatory but what is a Ruling Myth? Ruling Myths describe an origin and reason for why the current 'smoke screen' power structure is legitimate and outline a 'path to succession' so that power structure can be maintained as long as possible. The modern American ruling myth is based loosely on the original Greek ruling myth {propertied males select their councel rulers} and it reads as follows --> "Following our liberation from England our glorious founding fathers formed a Republic in which we citizens will live under the law; because we are far too stupid and unqualified to make laws for ourselves we will periodically elect people who will make laws for us". It is easy to see that this pretence is a ruling myth because all ruling myths have a built in logical fallacy. In the case of the American ruling myth the logical fallacy is --> If we're too stupid to rule ourselves then how can we possibly be smart enough to pick good rulers?

But I suppose that the ruling myth is a good thing because it masks planet earth's one and only ruling FACT: --> About 10,000 years ago a few Big Boys climbed up on the back of religion and grabbed a critical mass of power. Today the seat of this power mass is pan national and it moves as needed across any and all of societies institutions - from religion, to state, to corporation, to ???. To date there has never been a succesful challenge to this ruling fact...

  6. The good side of this frightening nightmare... on UK Satellites May Keep Cars From Speeding · · Score: 1

Normally I would launch off into a tyrade about 1) I'm sick of being repressed by safety legislation 2) Why isn't this technology being used to track CONGRESS? However, part of my New Year's resolution was to try to be more cheerful. So here goes: The good news is that the day after they install this puppy in America 137 million working people will get speeding tickets. This will cause such an outrage that the speeding laws will be adjusted to conform with reality and my commute to work will be decriminalized once and for all...
