As buisiness' become larger and larger, errors such as these will become more and more common place. And this from a company that isn't even truly recognized as a UTILITY. Imagine the power the phone company or power company could exert if it erroneously reported you were breaking the law due to some `glitch'.
I don't relish the thought of our law enforcement and political powers relying on technology that is buggy and prblematic. Would you let an NT box be your defendant in a trial? Ugh.
I've read quite a few comments about who is responsible. Parents, guns, society. I hate to say this but none of us know enough about these two kids to say what caused or influenced them to go on a shooting spree. We all know what we know via a third party who has no interest in conveying the facts or the truth. If anyone is to blame for keeping societies ills obfuscated and out of sight, it is the media. If we rely on the media to report to us what is going on, and we make decisions based on this hearsay and conjecture, we will never solve the real problem, no matter what it is.
In short, the media dispenses bad data. We would be wrong to act on that bad data or to draw conclusions from it.
I'm not so sure I totally agree. Will having more games published for Linux not encourage the attitude of `Linux is Windows, cept better'. I like having Win98 as a dedicated gaming OS, personaly. And I could see taking Linux and forming a `gaming' distribution. That might rock, also. But I don't think Linux becoming the jack-of-all-trades OS is a Good Thing(TM).
Moderation VS. newbie segragation WAS:My thoughts.

Perhaps I felt different as a Newbie, but I didn't feel that rushing into anything (informed or not) was the proper method of making myself useful. I lurk... alot. This is my second post... ever. After reading/. for a long long time, I'm starting to see the Usenet inside start to become more apparent. I don't like it. Perhaps the key to truly removing those who don't care from the moderator group is to make moderation OFF the default setting. I don't know really either. But I disagree that new users should be activly encouraged to post. The/. society's influnce on people should be the rules that govern how moderators act, not a list of guidelines. Written rules from no one in particular are easier to ignore and abuse than the words of a felow./er.
Hrm, maybe if I read my own stuff I'de realize I shouldn't post anymore. Hehe.;)
