My company, which is global w/ 1,000's of pc's shuts them all down (except for servers, etc.) every night at 8pm local time. We use a utility called Night Watchman which runs as a service and shuts them down. For those who are still in the office, you can postpone the shutdownfor an hour at a time by clicking a button on a dialogue box.
This was installed to reduce energy costs mainly. It works well.
