I have about 200 vinyl albums, 25 or so of which I'd love to have converted to digital form. Of course I'm not going to buy one of these turntables, but I would pay someone to do a high-quality A-D job on them.

I don't know the details of how moderator points are doled out, but there need not be a fear (on the part of a moderator) of wasting points. It could be that the system is constructed so that there are always a certain number of unused moderator points waiting to be used. Perhaps as soon as you use up your points, someone else is activated as a moderator. People shouldn't be afraid of using up their moderating points -- they should consider it a short period of public service. Just be objective, and get it over with.
Arrghh. A "steep learning curve" means that one learns a lot in a small amount of time. Therefore, if something is hard to learn, or takes a long time to get up to speed on, etc., the learning curve is shallow, not steep. "Learning curve" refers to a graph of time on the X axis and skill, knowledge, ability, etc. on the Y axis. It doesn't bother me that much when a non-technical person uses it incorrectly, but it irks the hell out of me when I see technical people refer to the "Linux Learning Curve" as steep. I know, I know, people use it wrong all the time, but it's ignorant. Soon the wrong meaning will be in the dictionary, if it isn't already! AARrghhhhh. I promise I won't flame about this again for a year.
He spoke at Mips once, and he was anything but boring. He was a great speaker, and really had people excited. It wore off after a while, but I can see how his employees, continually exposed to his hype, could get wrapped up in it all.
I see that some things in Slashdot are organized in date directories, something like:.../yy/mm/dd/...article_file. (For example, the URL on my screen now reads, "http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?op=post&sid=99/02 /04/1050210&pid=62". Will slashdot will have some Y2K issues come the new year, related to sorting articles, or something like that?
