While I can find religion anywhere, I'm glad centuries-old cathedrals, mosques and temples remain standing, in varying degrees of preservation. Stepping into a sacred place reminds me of the origins of faith -- or perhaps the reason it was lost for some -- and the grand inspiration for its construction.
While online universities, libraries and religions are a great boon, some of us still need to visit those sacred spaces -- the campus, the library stacks, the mosque -- to feel connected to our faith. As a knowledge worker with a tremendous faith in what can be done in the universe of the internet, my image of heaven is still the Long Room at the Trinity College Old Library...
