    I trust the people in the business I work at. 7 people in all. I leave my laptop on a desk in the office area or on my toolbox during the day. The thing I think about sometimes, is the people that are walking through off the street. The doors to the office are left open to the hallway which is shared by three business. The office can be empty for an hour at lunch or other times. If I'm not using the laptop I just put it in a cabinet. I could understand the posters concerns being appropriate if the cubicle area is semi-public. My suggestion would be a cabinet with a locking top, cut a u-channel for the attaching cables and perforate the back for ventilation. Open the top and guide your cables into the channel and then lock the top.

    In comments by pilots, no one has mentioned the relative safety versus flying in an airliner. Airline operations operate under FAR part 121, the most safe standard. Commercial operations of aircraft operate under part 135, which is less safe. General aviation operates under part 91 which is less safe. The new sport pilot is less safe than part 91 and ultralight operations are less safe still. I don't think that being a pilot and owning an aircraft is an option for most people. But the amount of freedom a pilot with his own aircraft has is kind of amazing.

    I am surprised that no one mentioned ELTs (emergency locator transmitter). Having an installed and functional ELT is a requirement for cross country travel. One commenter said the plane was a Bellanca. I wonder if an aerobatic pilot would turn off his ELT to avoid nuisance trips when doing aerobatics and forget to turn it back on. Most ELTs are getting kind of old. Like 20 to 30 years installed in the plane. What kind of reliability can you expect from a radio that old after a hard crash ?
