Well, I think you are missing the point: The question was "If Windows Came to PPC, Would You Switch?". I imagine for most people reading SlashDot that is "switching from a Mac", which has a lot to do with Apple...
People do some research before you name your software projects! Wix (wichs, same pronunciation often even spelled wix) means "wank" in German. I remember there was a car that couldn't be released in the German market because it was called "Mist" which means as much as "crap" there.
I am not surprised that King's approach failed. Who would pay for a book that you have to read on screen or print out on your own expenses? The medium seems to accommodate Scott's comics much better. (But you won't be able to judge that for yourself until you insert 25c:P) Shareware is alive and healthy; it's still around after decades and some people still make their living off it exclusively.
You are right on. Apple has married Kais Interfaces. I don't know if any of you guys have seen Conoma but iMovie is a total rip off of these flashy unintuitive UI. This doesn't bode well for Mac Os X which will probably scare away a lot of power users (I consider myself one) into the open arms of Linux. I already got Mol running. If only Adobe would port their aps and sell them with a usable Windows Manager, I would never look back. It is very said but unfortunately usability doesn't sell. Lickability does.
>Censorship is wrong no matter how awful the material to be censored is.
Just one example why I applaud this effort to fight online raciscm: In many of the smaller towns in eastern Germany there are a websites with death lists (along with racist and fascist content), if you would live there and don't conform to what their oppinion is, you can easily get your name on one of the lists. Then don't be surprised if you find yourself surrounded by a bunch of skinheads ready to bash your head in. I believe the primary goal of attempts to take down websites containing material like this is to prevent people from harm and not to censor for censorships sake. There is a difference between voicing an opinion and (verbally or physically) assaulting a person or even a whole race (or spreading rumors and lies about them). To me a lie doesn't go for an opinion. Neither does hate.
Video of Ashcroft singing.
