These things are being considered. Often such devices are so incredibly fragile that they cannot survive out of laboratory conditions. Also, these tiny things aren't going to have unlimited power, their strength comes from numbers and working in teams. Nanotech could destroy the world, but it also has great potential to help it. The first can be said for many things humans do, the latter cannot.
Now, ICQ already has many clones, just look at the horde available in Linux. It seems to me that if such clones are possible, it would be possible for MS to allow their messenger to integrate with the ICQ network. Of course, AOL is more likely to be able to stop MS that the upstart no-name people who write ICQ clones for Linux.
Isn't it fun when people try and be cool? The whole idea of it is to be a different operating system. not Windows, not Linux, not BSD, etc. Since it is written in ASM it isn't easily portable to different platforms...
