It's a bit more than a dent. How about "Another Nail in the Standard Model's Coffin"?

  2. which stock to buy: IP or MOT? on Cheap, Paper RF ID Tags To Replace Barcodes? · · Score: 1
The technology sounds promising. And it doesn't seem to make the world any prettier, so why not at least make some money while it unfolds? I just don't know what potential competition International Paper and Motorolla face . .

A quick look on the web, seems to suggest that the RFID concept is quite old (e.g. see Transponder News), so there's probably other people working on the problem . .

    Any suggestions?

Don't just look at your educational choices as decisions in picking a trade. You already know that a CS profession is a continuous learning process. And the same is true in most other trades today. Gone are the days when if you simply became a lawyer or a doctor, your success was virtually guaranteed. Whatever trade you pick, you will have to work at it to be successful. And, I believe, if you continuously work at something--anything, you are bound to succeed. So why not do something you love?

If you love the Law, both the theory and the practice, then go for it. If you are a crusader, looking to free software production from the closing shackles of property law, then you must love it, and I believe you will find a vast army of peasant woodworkers like myself behind you. If you got into CS for the money, and now you're thinking of a strategic shift to maximize your return, then you're like the rest of us, and no amount of riches can save you.

  4. bill's buddies sound a lot like himself on Gates Steps Down As CEO, Ballmer In · · Score: 1
I turned on the radio and tuned into the middle of an NPR story. Somebody was speaking for Microsoft, whining how they [DOJ] were trying to break the c'mp'ny, how inn'va[y]tion was being hampered, how consumer would suffer, on and on like a broken LP spinning at 45, and I thought I was listening to Bill Gates being interviewed. It wasn't so much the message that made me think it was Bill, it was the characteristic whining, but fast tempo, of his speech.

But NO! It wasn't Bill, it was Steve Ballmer! Is it just my imagination, or does Bill prefer to promote whining replicas of himself? (In the past, I have confused other Microsoft officials' voices for Bills as well.)

Some body help! Am I going mad? Or is this just another sign of things to come? Baby Bills? Billy Borgs? What should we call this new trend in pitched whining?
