  1. Did you just graduate from Cisco academy??? on The Myriad Ways of Wiring Your Home? · · Score: 1

The pull string isn't worth it. Especially if there are corners involved - it will ruin your cables.

  2. Actually the thing about fiber... on The Myriad Ways of Wiring Your Home? · · Score: 1

Fiber can be pulled harder than cat 5 and usually is. Cat 5 isn't supposed to have more than 25 lbs of stress. Fiber can have anywhere from 150-600lbs of stress. That is all for now.

  3. What about pre-existing situations? on MS Passport: "All Your Bits Are Belong To Us" · · Score: 1

I joined hotmail before M$ got their greedy hands on it. I never agreed to their TOS for passport. I agreed to the pre-microsoft TOS. I assume there are others on this board in the same boat. So am I affected by this very, very bad TOS?

  4. Seems to me... on Civil Rights For Aliens? · · Score: 1

Seems to me that the alien would probably be treated better than our own citizens. Seriously though. Think about it. When an illegal alien comes into the USA what happens? They get a FREE place to stay until there's enough of them for the border patrol to take back. Then there's the FREE ride back to their country. Sometimes there is even a FREE dinner involved.

    I'm done complaining now.

  5. Re:An Expanding Monopoly on Cable Companies Free To Grow, Grow, Grow · · Score: 1

I've heard that AT&T will be selling its broadband branch. I remember hearing something about AT&T shareholders wanting to get rid of the cable systems and all. Does anybody else remember hearing about this? I know that in my area AT&T has sold its system and we will have a new company in town that has good potential.

  6. Hardware? Not if you go to a 4 year college! on Computer Science vs. Computer Engineering? · · Score: 1

I can guarantee you that you will hardy ever, EVER touch the inside of a computer at a 4 year school. If hardware is what you want then go to a community college first for a year or 2 and then go to a 4 year school for programming and logic and stuff. There's a lot of 2 year schools that offer Cisco training and certification as well as microsoft cert and stuff.

  7. I knew about QNX being free a month ago! on QNX Now Free For Non-Commercial use · · Score: 1

Man, you guys sure are getting slow. I've had QNX running for about a month now, since they offered it for free.

  8. Thank you, DodgeNet on The Extinction Of The Mom & Pop ISP Service? · · Score: 1

I also agree that local ISPs provide better service than larger companies. In the bustling metropolis that is Fort Dodge, Iowa, we have 2 ISPs. One is the phone company and the other is DodgeNet. DodgeNet provides free service to their customers and are very knowledgeable. Plus they run linux/apache on their systems. For $15.95 the service can't be beat! (props to Paul Carpenter & Craig Foster!)

  9. This is all bullshit anyway on Global Warming Worse Than Thought · · Score: 2

So who was responsible for the ice age?!?! It must have been all of those industrialized countries back in pre-historic times? Are scientists aways this ignorant? If we have learned anything about history it is that the climate ALWAYS changes. No exceptions. I wonder what their logic is here: "Hmmm...the climate is changing so it must be because of man. It couldn't possibly be nature taking its course. Wow, I'm so damn smart I'll probably win a Nobel for this!"

  10. Do you know what you're talking about??? on Digital Movies and The Big Screen · · Score: 1

Just because the format is cheap doesn't mean that it will cost the consumers less. CDs are cheaper to make than cassettes, but we get charged more for CDs at the store. ALL of the prices are driven by the MARKET VALUE. I work at a movie theatre so trust me, the prices will just keeping going up and up. The only place my theatre makes money for payroll is with consession. And Lucas tried to take not only all of the box money but 60 percent from concession leaving jack shit for the theatres that show his movies. I am convinced that he is in it ONLY for the money nothing else. I am done now.

  11. What about the probs with streaming??? on Digital Movies and The Big Screen · · Score: 1

What about the obvious problems with streaming? If they do it over satelite then the stream can be interupted by the Geomagnetic storms. If its done over wire then what happens if the network goes down? There are a lot of stability questions that need to be answered before this technology goes mainstream. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be cool but we need to make sure the customers are getting what they pay for. I happen to work a theatre so I know that people hate overpaying for incomplete movies. (Besides, they already think they're paying too much the way it is.) Chicago rules!

  12. And all of this started because... on Justice Department Decides To Break Up Microsoft · · Score: 2

All of this started just because Microsoft bundled their Internet Explorer with their OS. Hmm... Doesn't Red Hat Linux ship with Netscape installed??? Is that the same thing??? I use both Red Hat and microsoft products and I'd have to say that this break up will not only hurt the economy but also hurt the computer industry. I mean how many flavors of operating systems do we really want out there? Its bad enough try to get companies to support 3 or 4 OSes, but what happens when there are more? I'm afraid that because of this things are going to become even MORE incompatible. Just something to think about.

  13. Its about time! on Gateway Linux Microserver · · Score: 1
