Well, I have a laptop with three hard drives using Linux for some stuff, windoze for other stuff and OS/2 for still more stuff....with ECS, I am hoping to be able to get all my apps under one OS - dunno if it will work, but its worth $139 for me to have a play with it.

I would like to know which company was putting out 4.45G hard drives in 1994? Were you even able to buy a commercially available laptop at that time with 1G? I thought 4.5G was still only in the dream stage then. At best, they would have been prohibitively expensive. (Reference point: In 1994, I bought an IBM 360C with a 720mb harddrive)

If it comes to the fact that deCSS got the attention of MPAA because they do not want to have Linux in their market....

Take a look at some of the testimonies from the M$ monopoly suit. MY guess is that the MPAA signed an agreement stating something to the effect that they could have free M$ software/services (or greatly reduced prices) if they restricted the code to only the M$ platform.

They did this to IBM - wanted IBM to give up development of OS2 for a reduced price license of kitting pc's with Windoze. IBM didnt buckle (Warp 5 came out this past 9/99) but now pays 4X the amount of $$ for a Windoze license than Compaq or Dell.

Now, perhaps, the MPAA is on M$'s sh*tlist and if they DONT sue, they will have to pay higher fees for software/services etc.....

The MPAA scenario is suposition. The IBM example I stated is documented fact.

...and boycott anything distributed by the MPAA and any of its partners/associates. Associates/Affiliates were reported in one of the news articles.

Stop going to the movies, stop renting or buying videos, do NOT buy another DVD.....and make sure everyone knows that you are doing this because the MPAA is STIFLING freedom of choice AND freedom to innovate (recognize THAT argument?)

You may not be able to put DeCSS up on your website but you do have the right to expose the censorship and descrimination that the very industry that cries when censored is trying to impose on us.

Perhaps hitting them in the pocket book by the alternative operating systems groups might work. (Linux/OS2/BeOS/etc..)
