  1. Revolution? on Mega-Cash Prizes and Revolutionary Science · · Score: 1

As the Negative Nancy, I feel a need to point out that the competition for this prize may doom whatever project that doesn't make it to the million dollar prize. A lot of very big theoretical breakthroughs have occured in the past 100 years and many of them were scoffed at by the scientific community. (Big Bang Theory comes to mind, if I am incorrect) I probably don't know what I'm talking about, again, but I could see financial competition taking a field that is mostly rooted in the whole for the sake of science idea and turning it into something for profit. Besides, nobody becomes a astrophysicist for the monies. I do like the idea to be honest, but that's my two cents.

  2. From a Non-Science perspective on Artificial Intelligence at Human Level by 2029? · · Score: 1

Something that may have been covered earlier, but I is too lazy to read all the posts: the economic feasibility of human intelligence is likely to prevent or at least postpone the development of this Humanistic AI. As of now, there is little demand or market for these since people can do the same things that people-simulating machines do, but cost significantly less to build and maintain (at least for now). Not to mention a lot of huff and fuss about I, Robot and Matrix scenarios about which we all seem so concerned. I for one feel confident that the Human race will remain un-duplicated for my life time (unless of course, the ETs finally drop by).

  3. Just out of curiousity on US To Shoot Down Dying Satellite · · Score: 1

Has anybody considered the chance that the satellite has hazardous* materials on-board? I don't really subscribe to the conspiracy theorist weekly, but nobody else mentioned it so I thought I'd bring it up. *specifically Nuclear, but I'm sure we can imagine something equally awful.
