I don't dream of owning my own home. In fact, every time I manage to reduce the number of objects to which I am tied (i.e. that I own) I feel more at ease.
"The American Dream" is the name of a common nightmare experienced by many non-Americans and even in the US it is possible to find those who do not define themselves by the items they have been allowed to consider their "own".
I'm not saying that all property is inherently evil, just that rather too many people seem to think that their own obsession with posession is somehow an inherently human property.
