  1. This isn't automation... on ESRB To Automate Game Rating · · Score: 5, Insightful

This is shifting the work to the game developers, whose staff has to fill out the extremely long questionnaires. Which might make one wonder, what's the point of the rating board in the first place?

  3. Re:Acrobat on Inducement To Piracy, Adobe Style · · Score: 1

Oh that's nothing. At my work, Acrobat 9 refused to print to our main Xerox printer and the fix was of course "upgrade to Acrobat X." And well, we just upgraded. Acrobat X is certainly worlds better: instead of merely not printing the document, attempting to print crashes the program. Side note: for your problem, try a free PDF printer, like primo PDF: http://www.primopdf.com/index.aspx

Well, one of his ad slogans is "Make the Most of Wearing Times." I guess commercially exploiting them counts.

  5. Re:too little for too much on Google TV Suffers Setback · · Score: 1

I've been thinking along a similar line. I'm currently in the market for a DVR, but couldn't find one that wasn't dependent on Tivo's ridiculous subscription fee. When I first saw Google TV, I was hoping it was the answer to my prayers, but instead found an odd little device that could only play streaming video from the internet - something almost all other comparable devices have as a secondary feature.

Thus, I set out to build something comparably better - But I'm lazy, so I'm just buying the cheapest desktop with a HDMI out port and popping in a USB TV capture dongle I already had. With the right software, this may work out to being an instant DVR while doing everything a Google TV would. Or it could be a nightmare if the cheap computer can't handle the video acceleration required for this...

Even better. Sell it on ebay and make some money off it. This is exactly what one suspect did (can't recall the /. link) IIRC.

Couldn't find a slashdot article on it, but it's elsewhere.
