you have got your economics wrong. nobody spends more Taxpayers moneys on idiotic programs than Governments around the world. If the Gates Foundation is directing research into areas the want to, so be it. the true measure of any foundation is simply stated. does the foundation in any way improve the living condition of the poor and underpriviledged on this planet or help humanity in any other way? if the answer is yes and the positive is greater then the negative then shut up and go on with your own life. academic research is mostly bound and restricted by grants, foundations, etc.
