A New Kind of War

As an Australian, I like to think I'm (a little) more immune to the US media (propaganda?) saturation than, well, Americans I guess. Something struck me as I heard the emerging military "proposals" or maybe call them "statements of intention" that sounded to me like they were trying to prepare anyone for a "long, hard, dirty war". I do realise that we can't all hear everything and I'm not naive enough to pretend that I understand the codephrasing either, but I think that rather than some hi tech war, it reads like they want to do all the covert dirty tricks stuff they always do, but out in the open.
I have to ask, why has (don't know his name) guitarist guy got the strange thing about balloons? Is it a deliberate "quirk" or is it some trauma arousing memory?
Why is the same guy *SO* fussy and rude about his guitar tuning to guitar techs? I watched my friend use a $600 rack multi function tuner (it would have been impossible to get it as accurate by ear) and still he literally threw it back complaining and demanding he retune.
To sum up.... Is the guy in question JUST AN ASSHOLE!?!?!
3 GODdamn pages of the crap!!!
I think that if you believe in god/s - you need to; because you can't cope with the idea that there are many things that we homo sapiens sapiens will *never* understand or comprehend, so you want an idea that feeds your ego - like an anthropomorphic "installer" and "system administrator" of the universe.
Face it, shit just happens.
That's a pretty blunt way of putting it but I kindo-of agree.... that way I say it though is that gods are for people who want/need them. That is, people who can't cope with ideas like infinity, time, quantum physics, relativity, etc, blah and want much more "plain-and-simple" ideas.
It is pretty damn interesting however, that many "hard" scientists (physicists, etc) seem to believe in a god of some sort. I think that as I've said all my life, the universe is amazing enough if you have a good look at it, without trying to invent some (less than imho) amazing explanation for it... just accept that it is wonderful, beautiful, etc but that you will never be able to really understand HOW or WHY....
In who-evers infinite wisdom "SHIT HAPPENS!"
ummm... I realy fail to understand this question, unless you don't actually know who Chuck D is, or maybe you haven't followed the whole Chuck D/Public Enemy endorsement of mp3 and their very enlightened statements about how the music industry is just so scared because mp3 will take out all the peripheral businesses making money out of musicians and allow them to freely self publish? Apart from that, whenever I've read or heard his attitudes and opinions about things he comes across as someone very intelligent, literate and openmided who is much better informed about technology or the political or social effects of such things as music or music technology than the average politician who makes decisions about these things. So, yes - I have thought for a long time that at the very least, I would trust his politics a lot more than many of the more "conventional" alternatives!
While reading your qustn it occured to me that i've seen ppl who have to deal with this stuff all the time as their job demands it!!! I worked for a touring company in Sydney Australia. Touring rockbands do this stuff a lot!!! Obviously they have the money to burn for the hardware but I just thought, if you know of any fan pages of any particular bands who are obviously tech/net savvy i.e. do their own page, etc.... maybe ask them?
well I'm glad someone had the sense to point this out, I was going to post something similar.... Something I want to add which is more the point I was going to make is that this "science" that is being purported to be a comms method faster than light - will no doubt attract BIG attention from people/companies with BIG money? Perhaps applying for a patent for something like that is a great way to attract investors, especially ones with more money than they know what to do with and are willing to throw a coupla 100k at anything that even smells of more money.......
I have to begrudgingly agree here. It's ridiculous to me, since I notice that so many i.t. enthusiasts are very interested/active when it comes to computer applications in music - that the supposed "power user's o.s." has such poor support in this area. I was in a nearly identical position, ready to dump windoze *except* that I was a little worried about maintaining the ability to use my machine for musical things. The moderate amount of research I did tells me that there are plenty of enthusiasts trying to write code to help themselves and others, but the big software houses that make music packages (and btw - sell them for incredibly inflated prices given their quality sometimes) just have *no* interest since they are too scared to share their code I guess. The biggest issue that I came into conflict with was the amount that I use DirectX for plugin FX, etc and like the original poster said, the big gaping hole where MIDI support should be!!!
