I'm running 2008 x64 on my HP 8710w laptop and I'm very pleased with the performance, especially in the I/O department. I had some driver issues with a few peripherals in RC0 and RC1 but those are fixed in the RTM version. And yes, I have enabled Aero so it looks pretty:).
I have Hyper-V and Bitlocker installed and I use the machine mainly for development. Although not work related I have to say that I'm very pleased with the performance in games like TF2. Steam works fine btw!
