This is a good step in getting faster and better computers... it is too bad it'll take about 10 years before it is anywhere near affordable! (think electric car technology)
... and maybe you didn't see the parent. I'm glad the kernal has been updated. I'm sure it serves some purpose to some people. but generally speaking, windows does most things for most people (end users).
if I didn't have a laptop, you'd be correct. I thought i made it clear that i wasn't talking about servers. I guess not, but thanks anyways for the troll. You can go back to playing wow or whatever you spend your free time on.
If I want a machine that just works, I buy a pc (or a mac, if I don't want to play any games on it).
If I want to join the linux fan club, then I'd install linux. The point was... GREAT - it has a good motor. But good engineering isn't the key to making a good product - there are a lot more variables that go into it.
Sure, bad engineering would cripple a product. But good engineering alone doesn't cut it. It has to be paired with accessibility.
okay okay, this has been said a few times over the years. I really thought Gutsy was a solid release - and it has been getting better since then! The only problem... is that I still can't get it to recognize my pci-e wireless card.
Linux won't be ready until it has the compatibility that MS has with XP. (lets not talk about vista)
They'll change the login screens, and BOOM! Its XPeee. (or eeeXP, whatever) okay... and they'll add in a few other optional functions. My EEE works better with FLP than it does with XP, and since I don't have a blackberry, I wouldn't know about tethering (or care).
IT & HR don't bring money into a company. So it is understandable that companies don't take those parts of their business seriously - unless it IS their business! (so.. a bad CIO is really just a glorified idiot. In most places. Get used to it..)
vanilla kernal on a hackintosh is really easy if the hardware specs are right... so I'm not sure why they had to modify the OS - maybe they just needed the EFI emulator, which starts up before OSX? *shrugs*
There are two independent computer shops near my place which will put together a hackintosh for you. They won't install the OS, but they'll build a computer that is fully compatible with os X and sell you a copy of osx too...
when blockbusters stop costing $10... and sucking, then I'll agree with you. Right now, I have to go see 4 or 5 movies at a theatre in order to see ONE good one - because hollywood is more concerned in making a good return on its investment in a movie, that they hype and advertise their crap so that I'll fund their next POS.
How a big non-commercial non-paying community evolved and actually produces some of the most respectable Operating Systems and applications packages available?
Look, I'm not saying that debian isn't awesome, but who payed them to say that?
500 gigs on your ipod? Most people i know can't fill 30 gig of music they like. Unless it was lossless...

Eat that, apple fanboys. All that ... AND an ethernet port :P

but anyways, thanks for coming out.

pci-e broadcomm 4311.
Intel 945.
Go play on facebook if you're looking to troll.
so if I had windows, I'd complain about not having the support of microsoft. but since I'm trying linux, I get told to buy new hardware.
That sounds like a nice double standard from the linux crowd.
If i want a race car, I buy a race car.

Great. Now that the engine is all fixed, can we get a decent looking chassis with working accessories?
Awesome idea. I have no problems invading the privacy of others so long as it protects me. Just don't invade *my* privacy.
...

Without this, how will the govn't know what sort of pr0n we're looking at?

Forget CE. What about windows flp? c'mon, this is the first mention of flp here... Wikipedia link!
Microsoft released its own nLite - its called Windows For Legacy PCs. It is an official XP lite, but only available to corporate customers.
Microsoft already has a stripped down version of XP shipping to corporate customers.

we're talking about apples, not mangos. get a clue ;)

the EULA for safari says 'only on apple branded hardware'
the EULA for OSX says 'only on apple branded hardware'
I don't see the difference EITHER... and apple is actively distributing safari to anyone with itunes, which includes a LOT of PCs.

So... for me, this isn't news, really.

AHHH!! modded down by an angry conservative!
