Buy the linksys broadband router and all of these are easy to set up. Napster should work right away, netmeeting has instructions, ICQ should work fine as well. Haven't run into anything that won't work, just turn on port forwarding for those programs that won't work with the base setup.

First I'd like to say that you don't have to let your 16 year old watch this. this is an R movie, you could restrict them to movies that are rated below R. You are the parent. Of course your 16 year old should be able to watch this movie without it making them into a "Bad" person. that is if you, as their parent, teach them that things such as killing other are wrong. Secondly, who are you to determine what is or isn't art culture or entertainment? I don't tell you what to watch, so I don't expect you to tell me what to watch. That's the funny thing about art and entertainment, everyone has their own opinion on what is good. If you truly have a problem with such material being shown maybe you, and those that agree with you, should boycott this movie.

And why should we only complain about box office hits? I can honestly say this is nowhere near the most disturbing movie I've seen in the past year. Maybe it was the most violent, but even that is debateable.

I'll finish off with a disclaimer that I don't think violence or sex is necessary in most movies. It is often gratuitous but on occassion it does serve a real purpose.

  3. Re:Cannibalism is NOT ENTERTAINMENT. on Hannibal's Return · · Score: 1

Well if parents would keep "our" children from watching such movies they wouldn't be fed this daily diet of massacre would they?

Everyone complains about violent content or sexual content yet do nothing about it. If you don't want your kids to see these things don't let them view R rated films. Still not good enough maybe you should restrict their viewing of PG-13 films.

Want to let them see the R films that you think are ok? screen the movies your kids can watch.

If parents would be parents they could stop complaining about the content of various media outlets and do something worthwile. Maybe explain things to your kids so they can handle this content and not be warped by it.

BTW I don't think good movies need violence or sex to make a good film. Most of it is pointless but it does at time make a point.

We can't really judge it until it's actually out and being used in production level machines. It's the same stadium that UNLV plays in seats about 39k if I recall. The game in Orlando was in the Orange Bowl, certainly not a "converted track field". The San Francisco game was in Pac Bell park where the baseball Giants play and the 49ers used to play. I'm guessing that Las Vegas has the worst stadium due to the lack of major sports teams in the area

The same way the NFL does. It's not really that unusual. The NBA does it (NBC, TBS, etc), the NHL does it (ESPN/ABC, FOX), MLB does it as well.

    Great take on the XFL.

What has suprised me is that the major media outlets (no I don't mean slashdot) continue to lambast the league after having seen it in action. This is real football, anyone who watched could have seen that. It's not played at the same level as the NFL, but it's pretty close to other semipro leagues.

Will it last? I think it has a real shot. It had a 10% ratings share saturday (17% for the first half), It doesn't make the mistake of starting long after the NFL season ends that many now defunct or struggling leagues did. The broadcast is entertaining. I actually sat through a game between 2 teams that I care nothing about, it has to be the playoffs for me to do that for a NFL game.

How often do we get to hear what is going on inside the huddle during a live game? If you can decipher it the game is much easier to watch. And the coach mikes on the sideline gave a nice insight into what really goes on between the coaches and players. The locker room cam was probably not as exciting as the XFL had hoped, but it does show that not all coaches yell all the time.

I hope the NFL takes some cues from these guys and gives us more of an insiders view to the game.

We have this thing called the electoral college which we use to elect presidents. This is not a new thing, nobody changed the rules to hurt Gore, it's not some vast conspiracy, it's just the way the election turned out. Yes it was close, but Al Gore lost according to the rules in the Constitution.

True, but Florida law doesn't. Last I checked this was a contested election in Florida not Texas. The other important thing is that in Texas this law was in place BEFORE the election. If Florida had this law on the books before the election I doubt chads would even be a debated issue. Florida can't just change rules in the middle of counting ballots.

Part of the reason for the bans was to keep it a contest that still relied heavily on the driver's skills. Thinks like ABS, traction control and active suspensions don't actually drive the car. They do keep you from going over the edge. But in the end the driver still has to drive the car and make the passes to win a race.

Actually no real rule on that situation. It is generally accepted that it is the responsibility of the passing driver to make a clean pass. So until the nose of their car is in front of you, you have right of way. Of course deciding to take that right of way and running both of you off the track is sort of counterproductive.

I've said before that the system needs to be changed, but getting songs off napster isn't the answer. The artists need to change the system, remember they have the original rights to their work which they then sign over to the labels in hopes of making it big. Until then I'm going to enjoy my source of almost free mp3's My current rate is below $0.10 per album over the course of 3 months. Even if I don't download any more for the rest of my subscription (which isn't about to happen) I'm still paying under $0.40 per album.
