- the SWF format is open and documented
- yes, creating a player is verboten (this is a good thing because it enables one of the player's strengths: consistent playback on all supported platforms)
- the Flex framework and BlazeDS are both open source and are both optional components of player-based and/or AIR-based apps
- they donated Tamarin to Mozilla and the community. Someday you will wake up and your JS will be much faster and you will Adobe a beer.
