Sure, sure. You can deny the Elephalypse all you want now, but you will come to see in time!

That said, I will be selling a sizable amount of property on the right tusk for interested buyers. It is the best tusk, after all.

^ What he said. The movie (and Spock in particular) was very blatant, very direct, in stating that it was an alternate timeline. They made a very specific point to even bring it up in the dialog of the movie that this was not part of the timeline of TOS and all that followed it, but rather split off. So, if anyone wants to think of this as not being part of the original timeline... Good! The producers didn't want you to, heh.

  3. Re:Quite fair on Open Source Usability — Joomla! Vs. WordPress · · Score: 1

I use Joomla on a daily basis and I know rather little about PHP - I still really have no issue with it. However, it also took a rather long time before I became comfortable with using Joomla, as it certainly does suffer from usability problems and it is a bit clunky. I do agree - you need to use the right tool for the job. Joomla is extremely powerful and very extensible - but it isn't really perfect for everything. I seriously regret building my blog in it and I really should have used WordPress, which is built for that sort of a thing far more. Still, there are plenty of things I'd rather use Joomla for, as opposed to WP.

  4. Re:Did anyone use the Linux client? on CCP To Discontinue EVE Online Support For Linux · · Score: 1

I tried it for a while, but found that the client run in Wine was just hugely better. The premium graphics certainly helped. If the Linux client (which was just the EVE client sitting inside of Cedega) at least had that, it would have been more successful, no doubt.

  5. Re:Best "mouse": Logitech Trackman on The Best Computer Mice In Every Category · · Score: 1

I have to agree. I used a mouse for a long time and wouldn't have ever considered trying a trackball. However, while I was studying abroad in Japan, my mouse broke. My host-brother, who happened to be a trackball fan, tossed me one of these to use until I had some time to run out and grab a new mouse - because, heck, anything would be better than using the touchpad on my laptop. I took to it pretty quick and have since found that using a mouse seems... weird. Needless to say, I never picked up a new mouse.

  6. "Do it. Don't think about it, just do it." on Study Abroad For Computer Science Majors? · · Score: 1

... The advice my friend gave me when I considered it. I'm not CS, but my friend who went along with me to Japan was and I guarantee you'll get a recommendation from both of us. Not to mention everyone else else who participated in the program. In Japan, there's a program up in Sendai where you'll be able to do research in fields such as engineering and CS, which could be directly beneficial to your degree. But, even if you don't have classes that directly relate to what you want to do with your life, the experience will be entirely worthwhile regardless. You'll learn a lot about yourself, the world, and you'll get a rather impressive little thing to add to a resume. So, yeah. Do it.

  7. Re:"Search engine"? on YouTube Passes Yahoo As #2 Search Engine · · Score: 1

Yeah, I have a hard time considering YouTube as a 'search engine', but I must admit that YouTube having more searches traffic through it than Yahoo is somewhat surprising. Even if it is /. and I shouldn't be doing that, the article is pretty interesting.
