With the problem being that when you say "fuck you" they then turn it over to the collections agency who hounds you. Oh yeah, then it also appears on your credit report for the next 7 or 9 (I forget which) years. Try getting that off your credit report. Guess who ends up getting fucked by that? This is even the case if the carrier's system fucks up and charges you for a month after you canceled your account and then "loses" all information about you canceling a month prior despite a credit card bill which says otherwise. Ask me how I know.

Yes. I had RROD, and it was about as painless a process to get fixed short of emailing me a gift certificate to go pick up a new xbox. I wasn't psyched about it, but xbox live and the selection of games is just too damn good. And the new ability to stream Netflix doesn't hurt, either.

  3. Re:I Think You're Reaching There on Philosophy and Computer Science Revisited · · Score: 1

Yes, there are very few arenas in life where a specific knowledge of philosophical theories, etc will be essential; however, that is not the point. A personal aside: the first CS class I took (Intro to C, or something like that), was taught by a professor with advanced degrees in both CS and philosophy. I currently work in software and systems development. Oh, and my undergrad is in Philosophy. There is a strong correlation between the two because both philosophy and CS require very strong logic and abstract thinking skills. It is therefore not surprising to find that people who are interested in one are interested in the other, and even less surprising to realize that developing those same skills - through either philosophy or CS - will only make one that much better at the other. Is it necessary to study philosophy in order to study CS? Of course not. But it will only help. Besides developing relevant skills, I'm of the opinion that everyone should at least take an Intro to Ethics class.

Exactly, the free market got us monopolies, and the government came in, broke them up, and tried to create competition. See: Telecommunications Act of 1996
