  1. Beware the Intel EtherExpress Pro w/linux on Introducing The New Slashdot Setup · · Score: 4

We have several Fullons ourselves, and under heavy load these cards cease to function. I have to log in via an internal network interface and ifconfig the outside IP down then back up.

  2. The DID at one point, now they aren't..... on Court Rules For Connectix, Against Sony · · Score: 1

I believe the original version of Bleem did not have copy protection. Sony balked at that, and Bleem added it to ther later releases. Then Sony sued them for reverse-engineering the copy-protection check (huh?). Now Bleem has said on record that they have given up entirely on copy-protection in the future. I don't think that was the effect Sony had in mind.....

  3. Re:Still uncool on DeCSS Injunction Ruling · · Score: 1

Nobody said that you're not allowed to play DVDs on your computer. The drive works fine with Windows. Check the system requirements on your DVD drive box - does it say anywhere that Windows 9x/NT is required? If so, then you have no case. The judge can use that to say that if the customer does not follow the device's requirements, then you have no right to complain that you can't use it on an unsupported operating system.

  4. Why don't GNOME and Redhat get along? on Miguel Delivers State of Gnome Address · · Score: 1

What I'm referring to is the fact that GNOME RPMs install in a seperate directory (/usr I believe) than the default installation via compiling the source (/usr/local). I know you can set that in the configure script, but one time I forgot that and totally hosed my gnome installation. Libraries are now in conflicting directories and Gnome won't start up at all. I removed both directories and started over, to no avail. Anyway, since Gnome is partially funded by Redhat (correct?), why the hell can't they agree on an installation directory?

  5. Settled the hacker/cracker debate for me on ABC TV Does Two Major Cracker Stories · · Score: 1

The only thing that the 20/20 piece did for me was determine that the true term is now 'hacker', no matter what the Slashdot community is trying to cling to. I mean, up until the end I was with you guys: I even kept on saying the word 'cracker' out loud everytime they used the word 'hacker'. But then the head of Global Hell even referred to himself as a 'hacker', and if somebody were to get the term right, it would have been him. I guess it's finally time to realize that the definition has changed with the times. After all, who wants to be called gay when they're happy (well, heterosexuals at least) anymore?
