Excellent counterpoint. Just as a note of my own based upon some preliminary shopping I was doing for a friend: While the Seagate 7200.10 perpendicular recording drives were amazing performers (using one myself), the new 7200.11 second-gen drives are experiencing rather high failure rates from what I've seen on Newegg. A lot of people were complaining about how well their 7200.10's worked and how terrible their experience with the.11's has been.
Up until that point I would have been willing to say that Seagate really does have a better overall drive, just based on random sampling. Now, I'm not so sure. If the reviews on the Velociraptor continue to turn out positive, I'll buy a pair to put in my newly-resurrected frankenbox.
