I have heard these comments from most of the PMs that I have talked to about XP and I think the issue comes down to one of the illusion of control. If I am in control I can keep the project from failing, the programmers from going insane and the users from being dissatisfied. The problem is this illusion is hard to maintain. IMO XP says let go of that illusion, and embrace the change that is going to be in the process. If I keep with the core values and principles, I find by letting go of the control I thought I could create I am actually in more control of the process.
