I hope you realize your point is moot. There would be no purpose in creating images with 1bit per pixel as he suggested because you'd get nothing but abstract art. The actual answer is much much much larger than that anyhow. Finding it is obviously pointless.

You forgot that we can assume the first picture is just a blank white canvas and the last picture is a blank black canvas, and any image where all bits are the same are just some shade of gray. So more like a little less than 9 billion billion years.

We'd start getting results before the iteration was complete. Honestly, I don't see why the government hasn't put trillions of dollars into this already.

Seeing as how this guy specializes in

I've decided that he'd be better off using its vast resources to find the specific government form I need to fill out to get the taxes the government wasted giving this guy a cluster he doesn't need given back to me.

I'm pretty sure you could automate a lot of the sifting, and then send the rest of it to India. You'd just have to have some liability protection in case any of them run across naked pictures of their own mother....

Write a program that creates every possible 255x255px bitmap possible, and then right an algorithm to go through and figure out which ones are rubbish and which ones are actually recognizable pictures.

Logic dictates that one of the resulting pictures would have to be of John Lennon kicking George W Bush in the nuts, find that picture and post it on failblog.

    Voila.

Probably about the same as ANY administration doing so. When was the last time one administration held any previous administration accountable for anything? It just doesn't happen.

It isn't really about the telcos, as most people involved in these lawsuits are pretty sure that the government agreed to take on their liability. Unfortunately if you try to sue the government over this you're gonna get some state secret sauce all over your face. If you sue the telcos they will have to reveal some of the gory details to cover their own asses. In other words, its the only way the truth ever comes out.

Well, my anecdotal evidence contradicts your anecdotal evidence so I guess we're at an Impasse here. Just about everyone I know (minus one) who ended up switching to mac came back a year later for any number of reasons, usually it has to do with reliability and performance degradation, but also because they don't appreciate some of the "round about" as one person put it, ways Macs go about doing things. It's all just comes down to what people want from their computers. I know, holy shit, different people have different experiences and opinions about things.

When you build your own PC you also get the best parts at way under a grand, and every time I've done it's lasted up until I wanted to upgrade... except that one that spontaneously combusted. hrm.... upgrading and building your own... how do you translate that into Mac speak?

For windows users using Mac programs is extremely painful and unintuitive and I'm sure the same is true the other way around. Why one side is willing to pay more has a lot more to do with the fact that there is competition in the PC market.
