I suspect he is trying to justify the terrible voting intention polls that have occurred recently in Brazil. Where they interview 0.00125% of the population to know the voting intentions of the whole country, and that IF there were any interviews.
Read what I will say carefully. What II will suggest is NOT the "absolute truth", it is only a possibility.
Imagine something in "2001 Space Odyssey" style, the very beginning of the film. Some intelligence gets down here, do some experiments with the most promising species and goes away to wait for the results. A few thousand years later it returns and finds a primitive society we know as Romans, and decides to try a more direct approach. But the approach do not occur well as she expected, and its representative is killed by the natives. Then the intelligence decides to wait until the natives evolve enough to be able to a contact, perhaps a few more thousand years in the future.
Hey, take it easy! The other commenter interpreted the bible as I also think that it should be interpreted, ie as a storybook.
In my humble opinion, nothing prevents the biblical characters would be aliens, because imagine how a person from that time would react when he see a being completely out of the ordinary. Even our earliest ancestors thought the sun would be a "god".
But having said that, do not think I'm saying that was exactly what happened, I'm just saying it's a good theory as any other.
You're right, but never forget a very important detail... When you try to force others to have the same opinion as you using physical force as a threat (or other means of force, such as defamation), is not freedom of expression anymore.
"Believe what you want as long as it does not threatens the well-being of others around you"
I read some time ago that the olfactory cells are one of the few nerve cells that maintains the ability to reproduce and create new connections, then it seems that the researchers basically created a "hard hack" with that. Interesting, and hopefully it will be applicable in many similar cases.
In countries like mine, freedom of expression exists only on paper. So I understand the concern of the author of the topic as if I wanted to make a website I would also be targeted by fraudulent takedown requests in the first time that I write anything that a rich man or politician disliked.
The interesting detail is that you (and me) do not living in a democracy, you live in a plutocracy in practice. And in a plutocracy there is no place for this thing called people.
Corporate profit is more important than our lives, is the current mantra of the USA. And then americans do not understand why most of the world hates them.
Is because of things like this that my country should have nuclear weapons. Then when the United States try to impose shit like this, we can say "fuck you" and blow up Washington if they insist.
I think you misunderstand my concern. I know that the atmosphere is not going anywhere in the short term by exactly the factors you described. What concerned me on the probe data is the long-term. For example, if the water continues decomposing as the probe detected without having something to replace it, then sometime in the future the planet really will not have any more water (ignoring here the possibility of underground ice, as we do no have enough data about this yet). And if in the distant future someone could change the atmosphere for something breathable, the data suggest that it would be a job that would last a short time in planetary scales (so, bad for permanent colonies).
To begin this brief conversation, If you are so sure of what you say you would not be posting as AC. That said, there is a huge difference between criticism and stupid insults. Criticism is healthy, clueless insults are not.
The norm is to ignore ACs, but... I wonder why humanity allows a piece of shit with no imagination, no dreams, no ambitions, hateful, stupid, coward and ignorant as you living among us. Never say "never", AC... I am dismayed by the news that Mars may be airless in the distant future, but I'm far from giving up as you.
So, in the long term the tendency is Mars losing their atmosphere and become a rock without air. Bad news for terraforming plans and long-term colonies:-(
Hum... Correcting myself, after reading TFA (i know, I know, bad idea) I have not seen anywhere the author wrote something clearly against compatibility, seems to me a misinterpretation of the anonymous who created the summary.
Oh boy, another one who thinks he is the almighty smartass... I answered the question from Dr. Manhattan, dude. You just failed miserably to understand.
And honestly I'm not going to spend my time trying to explain given that the tone of your reply suggests to me that you're not the least bit interested in hearing.
I can not be used as a basis for suspecting that I'm too much rational (and not quite human). But I also observed what men do in a similar situation and have not found the same level of divergence between what they say and their actions
Why moderated this guy as +1 funny? What he says is true. And I would add that to be possible freedom of will you (reader of tihs post) need to know that part of your behavior is biologically determined, to be able to differentiate it from your rational thoughts and so be able to choose when to obey or not your instincts.

Because of the nuclear fear mongers. "All radioactive material is EVIL!!!".

He's right, and you're also right. What he wrote therefore would be better if written as follows:
"Let them wallow in their beliefs, provided they do not harm anyone by doing so".

This. And it was like in Europe, where the crossbow was considered unacceptable for letting an ordinary person kill the armoured nobles.

You would not be against a population, you would be against a handful of really rich people and their bodyguards. Much easier.

Paul Chiusano is in the wrong job or is too young to remember why we geezers are so concerned about compatibility.
Thanks. I also think that is very good when people is civilized.

Good point. And so now I wait to see what will be the results of the researchers when they do the same with male rats.
Correct.
