I assume it's for the same reason studios choose to shoot in Canada; financial incentives. The British Columbia government offers all sorts of tax breaks for studios that shoot in the province, not to mention the fact the Canadian, Australian and Kiwi currencies are midgets compared to the all-mighty greenback.
The prefix "homo" does not mean human. It comes from the Greek meaning "same" as in simliar. Homogenized milk has nothing to do with humans other than being drank by humans.
Obviously Thompson, Manitoba is not represantative of population distribution in Canada. Most Canadians live in the Toronto area and there are plenty of record shops around there. Thats like saying you can't find a good record store in Buttfuck, Kansas.
I think the real problem is that most Canadian music (with a few exceptions) is just a pale imitation of mundane American rock. So why would we buy Canadian when we can get a less derivative sound? Perhaps if the more interesting artists like Rufus Wainwright and Hawksley Workman got more of a push, sales would increase. Maybe its just me tho.
The same thought occured to me. However, a quick visit to www.pkware.com presented me with the question of whether or not Katz actually owned PKWare at the time of his death or not.
Perhaps there is a memorial fund all of us non-registered users can contribute to in recognition of the convienience he provided us.
I dont know about you, but when the voice of Barney from the Flinstones switched, I got mighty upset as a child. They can find good writers, but if the voice actors (Hank Azaria et al) ever leave, the show better finish up too.

Rest in peace, Phil Katz.
Now if only Battle of the Planets would come back. That show ruled when I was nine or ten.
