Since Ubuntu got a KDE by default varient called Kubuntu, will Redhat match it with Kedora, a KDE based Fedora? I am thinking about switching to Kubuntu because I prefer KDE and apt, and Redhat seems to want both of those moved to second class citizenship in favor of Gnome and yum respectively.
Sure KDE and apt can be had on Fedora, but it isn't a default first-class thing as exists with Kubuntu.
Iranians look like Arabs? Don't tell any Iranians that. While many Iranians are semitic, most are Aryan... which look different from your typical semite.
It wasn't religious fundamentalists who protested Mel Gibson's film before they saw it.
Sure it was. It was the Jewish Supremacy group known as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). Sure they claim they fight "bigotry" and for "fair treatment of all", but any unbiased observation of their activities show that they are a Supremacy group. They are religiously wacked out of their minds, but their religion Judaism as oppossed to Christiantiy. A religious wacko is a religious wacko no matter which religion they are being wacko about. See Irish-Catholic and Islamic terrorists for other examples. My favorite bit of the ADL's current work (see their website for details), is how they completely oppose things like school vouchers and other things giving Christianity a closer connection with the government (I oppose it too of course), but they actively campaign for USA government aid to Israel, a religious state, and the best part is that they are now actively campiagning for Israeli's to return the favor by putting some of this money back into Jewish religious schools in the USA!
Their rational is that it is too hard to get the USA to directly fund these schools (yeah, separation of church and state), but it is quite easy to get money to Israel. Hence laundering the money through Israel is openly advocated. Yes, that is called "hypocrisy".
You might want to consider using an operating system with a better package manager. On most Linux distros, installing OO is as easy as clicking on an entry in a GUI package manager listing of available packages. Even better, many distros install OO by default, when doing a desktop install.
My god, who in their right mind would write up a Latex document in OO or Word? LyX is a much better application for Latex development. If you are willing to spend money and you want a similar application for Windows, try Scientific Word.
Mepis is a great KDE/Debian based Live CD. It is basically a cleaner Knoppix, with a graphical installer option, unlike Knoppix's commandline script installer option (which is very much a hack). The great thing about Mepis's graphical installer is that since it is also a Live CD, you can surf the web while your OS installs:)
Ahhh, gotta love that "software engineering" bullshit. Yup, who cares if the actual system is properly constructed, lets stick to a bunch of dogmatic beliefs and buzzwords. I guess it explains why there is a bunch of crappy software out there. Too many people refuse to do what is necessary and instead just go with the flow.
If your post could be modded above a "5", I would mod your post as "insightful". I guess people have no memory, and that is why these Semantic Web frauds get grants, venture cap, etc. They have these big promises of seemlessly integrating web services... AUTOMATICALLY?!?!
The easiest way to disprove their crap is this. Even in RDF or OWL, it is possible to have "semantic aliasing", i.e. multiple ways of representing the same concept. This is exactly the core problem that they claim they address and that they claim that XML does not address. Think about it, how can automated inferences be made, if two concepts have distinct _semantic_ (not just syntactic) representations? Furthermore, it can be shown that in general these different representations cannot be automatically determined to represent the same thing.
So their entire project is a farce! It is a bunch of people that are both ignorant of pertinent theoretical mathematical results on computability, completeness, and hell, the fact that even in axiomatic set theory there are multiple ways to represent... say... the real numbers... and they are also ignorant of practical computer/sofware engineering and sociological limitations.
They have stop-gaps: ontologies. Oh if only people could agree on one common unified ontology, the entire semantic aliasing problem would be solved... or so they seem to think. But just because people agree on a common vocabulary, the way it is used can still give rise to the semantic aliasing problem. So even though the fact that agreeing on some complete or near-complete ontology is going to be IMPOSSIBLE, even if it was done, it still wouldn't fix the deep underlying problems with the Semantic Web - problems that have been struggled with for over 100s years in the field of formal mathematics.
There already are mice with a track ball instead of a wheel, and other nice yet that have a track point instead of a wheel. In fact, the trackball and trackpoint on a mouse existed before a wheel on a mouse, let alone a tilting wheel.
Quick, somebody tell Google that Linux doesn't scale so that they can switch to Windows! It would also be a good idea to notify Amazon of the same thing.
So basically even though the RPM based distros were already using APT for RPM for years, Fedora decides to ditch it in favor of an inferior package manager Yum, and then they continue to update and improve Yum until it actually has some advantage (though tons of disadvantages still) over APT for RPM. It seems like it would have made a lot more sense to make APT for RPM official and simply add multilib support... as opposed to force everybody that was already using APT for RPM to switch to Yum which was slower and had less features.
Windows and Linux users can install FC4 test1 on their PC right now without any worry by using the PC emulator QEMU, the free and opensource vmware! Personally, I am already using FC3, and I want to make sure that I like FC4 before I switch. I also want to help find any bugs and report them during the test releases, so that they can be fixed before FC4 goes gold.
I think the poster was mearly implying that the government should have checks and balances in place so that abuses are minimized, easily detected, and corrected. So, sorry to burst your bubble, but there is quite allot of room between facism and anarchy.
Well, I was just pointing out that you were linking to a racist website, so as to not further legitimize the Free Republic as some kind of information source.
I have been reading Free Republic long enough to know that the aforementioned posts are quite common and many of them are very serious. Posts on slashdot about nuking Redmond are extremely rare and obviously in jest. Not only are the posts bad on Free Republic, but the news articles are equally racist. The worst part is that the site practices heavy censorship to reinforce this racism. Any post that tries to counter a racist one is deleted and if you get too many posts deleted in such a way, your account will get banned.
So your analogy to Slashdot is way way off. I have right leanings (on most things) as well as left leanings (on science and tech), but the racism, bigotry, and other hate filled crap that flies around the Free Republic is definitely _not_ my cup of tea. In fact, I find it to be down right evil.
Of course, I do support free speech, so I support the legality of the site's existence. But then I am just exercising my right to complain about it:) and warn others against being sucked into its hate.
Well there was that first person shooter with Doom 3-like graphics with the entire game engine and content in a 95KB file. Textures, models, and levels were all procedural.
It also sounds allot like "E.V.O.:Search for Eden" for the SNES, as well as Sim City, Civilization, etc... the point is that Will Wright plans on seemlessly merging these great fun ideas. That is the revolutionary part.
I like how you linked to a racist web site. Good work! By the way, just how many times this week has the Free Republic called for ethnic cleansing of various parts of the world?
I am already using FreshRPMs, which is great, but KDE is still a second class citizen. The OS admin applications are still using Gnome's toolkit, etc.
*cough* REAL 3DO Multiplayer *cough*

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Please mod the parent post up!

Stop hurting the buzzword-engineer's feelings. They need to keep thinking that a piece of software is good if it makes use of enough buzzwords.

The problem is that "terrorism" is a very broad word. Hence "limiting it to anti-terrorism" stuff isn't very limiting at all.

5000:1 compression ratio? What did he do, tap the Commodore 64 demo scene?
