Tribes is a great game, but my all-time favorite was the original Quake Capture the Flag mod. If you sank your grappling hook into someone then commited suicide, you'd respawn somewhere else in the level, but your hook would stay stuck in your opponent. Their only hope was to find your respawn point and frag you before the hook killed them.
