... Holding documents to strict schemas can be ineffective, because documents change over time. Sure, you can just create more and more tables, but that requires administrators and time....
Suppose the(y) add a field to invoices. And it is required on all future invoices. With RDBMS, you need to create a new table with a NOT NULL constraint.
There are good reasons to choose NoSql (I like my paycheck), but that's not one of them. The major SQL products have supported "add column" for decades. I implemented add column in the '80s. ISTR that oracle, db/2 and sybase also supported it at the time.
> Itanium running native software runs circles around the fastest x86..
Uhm... would those circles be the ones with corners? The square wheels of Itanium2 don't perform as fast as Core 2.
Itanium does okay for floating point work. It has lots of RAS features which just aren't available in x86-land. Its speed has not turned out. Our software on Itanium 2 runs a couple of times slower than it does on Core 2 systems.
I hope you weren't implying that Slashdot posters are pendantic.....
Actually, most Slashdot posters are pendantic, since the majority of them (us?) are male. No doubt there are some females posters are moderately pendant themselves.
[amichalo] I do not call burning a disc and re-ripping (which degrades quality as well as looses track info such as artist, title, and cover art) "working with" other devices.
iTunes can convert AAC files directly to MP3; it is not necessary to burn it to CD and re-import it.
