In a nutshell: I also go to CMU, all students (except those in the College of Fine Arts) are required to take at least Introductory/Intermediate Programming, and I agree wholeheartedly, but I feel that computational thinking (which can be developed through good programming courses) is more important than just the ability to write scripts to do math.
