We shouldn't make the assumption that there are exactly two options: go to a polling place or vote online. In fact, here in Oregon we have a fine compromise in place: vote by mail. We have no polling places, no voting booths. We receive a ballot in the mail, which we fill out and return by mail, with "election day" as a deadline.
I don't see how voting online would be any better for me, the voter. Except I wouldn't have to buy a stamp, I suppose.
