Ok, this is kinda offtopic, but man, chill. Everyone always gets all uppity when someone dies and takes things way to serious. I mean hell, obviously the guys at slashdot thing highly enough of Bill Hewlett to post about his death, which is a tribute to him in and of itself.

I think they also handled it right by not getting all uptight about it, that's not the way to celebrate someones death, it's to be happy and rejoice in the life they had, i mean hell, if you can be happy and laugh ever once in a while then what the hell is the purpose of life.

  6. I might work if.... on First Internet Appliance With BeIA - From Sony? · · Score: 1

Ok, i know everyone's all like "it'll never work, everyone's been and there mother has tried to push internet appliances and failed." The major problem i've seen is that there's been no real advertizing for the appliances. Face it, American's are stupid, they'll buy anything if you just advertise it right. (And yes, i know, that last statement totally ignored the rest of the world...)

Look at the iMac and Ibooks. I happen to own one, when i mention that i have one is "What color is it." What the hell does that have to do with anything...jack nothing, but it proves that people will buy anything as long as it looks good (which the Evilla does) and if you tell them it fills a need (real or illusionary.) If sony playes it's cards right it could sell these things. Especially to old people, they think real computers are scary...

So all sony needs to do is blitz the media with the idea that if you buy one of these you'll be happy, it'll bring world peace, and you'll get lots of chicks...then again isn't that every ad.

Oh well...i'm just waiting for someone to hack it so that we'll have full access to the OS...yet another cheap ass computer....:)

  8. Re:Don't just blame EBay - blame the system on E-Bay Patents Thumbnail Galleries · · Score: 1

You can never count on corporations to do "the right" thing, their sole responsibility is to their shareholders and to increase shareholder value. If the law creates a way, immoral or not, for corporations to increase shareholder value, it is in their nature to exploit it. It is the responsibility of lawmakers to prevent this from happening, however lawmakers depend upon corporations to get them elected.

BULLSHIT!"It's not me, it's the system!" Ok, here's how it goes, corporations are made up of people, and in the end it's the people in the corporation who make decisions who are responcible for the corporations acts. "It's just business" is the biggest load of shit...it's just a way for people to justify thier immorallity. If i can kill a hundred people and it's profitable doesn't mean it's morally right and if it's legal doesn't mean i should do it. I don't blame the system, i blame Ebay, and more specifically, the decision makers within the comapny

You see, corporations aren't just big faceless entities, they are run by people. We often forget that and thus decided that it's "thier nature" to seek profits no matter what. This is total bullshit, just as there are people running businesses who would kill thier mother if it made a buck, there are people running businesses who have a backbone and some morals and refuse to give into the "get the money" mentallity. You know of 'em, the news stations always run puff pieces 'round christmas about the business who gave it's employees a unheard of bonus or something to that effect.

voting and technology aren't gonnna solve the problem. How the hell is technology gonna stop money grubbing bastards....no, if there's gonna be a change it's gonna be from the ground up. It's gonna be a total change in our culture. I can already see it starting....there's a growing resentment towards corporations and profittering. You can see it in on slashdot, you can see it in our mass media with with movies like fight club (yes, fight club, it's a critique of materialism and wage slavery to corporations) , You can see it with the growing protests (WTO, IMF, ect) It's just a matter of time before the movement gains critical mass but when it does, it's gonna be unstoppable.

  9. Re:Big news: Earth corrects itself on Ozone Hole Will Heal, Say British Scientists · · Score: 1

aggg....i can't put my frustration into words. You critize the green view as being "nice" but "not necessary". WTF, ok, a few things, first in the article is says the whole reason the ozone will heal its self is because of decreased CFCs in the atmosphere, and why could this be the case, reduced emmisions. It is the greens who have pushed the enviroment to the for front of the world concious. Without them, there would be no enviromental laws, corporations wouldn't be responcible for over pollution. Without the green view reducing emmisitions would have never been a concideration and the hole in the ozone would still be growing.

Additionally, we're not quite out of the woods yet, as the article says, a few screw ups and the ozone will continue to grow. And it's just that attitude of "well, we don't need to worry about it" that will lead to the types of changes that would continue the growth of the hole in the ozone.

Sure, no matter what happens mother earth will adjust but if we continue to fuck our planet over like we are now, that adjustment will involve the death of many. Skin cancer, flooding from the icebergs, change in climate that fucks up the food chain. Yep, mother nation will adjust, but at what price?

  10. If current thinking fails, change it on Are We Ready For Broadband Internet Access? · · Score: 1

There's been a lot of talk in the mass media about peer-to-peer file sharing, and it's impact on the future of the internet. Perhaps it isn't the end-user having bandwidth that is theproblem, but rather a single server, and it's bandwith constrictions. The server is the choke point. But with peer to peer server type stuff you could do everything a server can do and more. With a little refinement, and the elimination of the RIAA, peer-to-peer file sharing replace the need for servers. The potential is there, all you need is a catalyst (IE everyone having lots of bandwith and crashing servers, forcing peer-to-peer). In the end, i say give everyone bandwidth and figure out how to fix the problems as you go along. Huddling in the corner worring about "potential" problems isn't gonna solve anything. Don't wonder if it'll work, make it work. So there's my random, incoherent thoughts, enjoy
