If only AIX's memory management was as good as its logical volume manager. mmap on AIX is just broken when it comes to performance. If you have more that say a dozen processes mmaping a file and one of those procs makes a change all the others _MUST_ be interrupted to have their in proc. memory cleaned up. This becomes an even larger problem when you have hundreds of procs mmaping the same file.
Ok. Enough suggestions for classic Jazz. If you want some more modern sounding albums, I would suggest the following:
Any Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. You really can't go wrong here.
Jaco Pastorious in any form which includes solo albums and any Yellow Jackets CD you can find.
Victor Wooten By far the best modern Jazz bassist around. Also part of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
Stanley Jordan This man is just amazing. Plays the guitar with both hands like its a piano. If you can find any of the live stuff you will defineatly be able to tell that it is live and he is just that good.
If you want more mellow stuff try John Pattatuci (spelling?). Modern Jazz bassist that plays with lots of emotion which most will translate into lullabies. Morons.
I have been using LVM on my workstation and just about every machine that I have built in the past 2 years. I also use AIX everyday and agree that the LVM is very robust but I prefer the simplicity of the linux LVM.I recently built a box with software raid 0 and made the whole thing on physical volume and have had zero problems. I have also user the LVM to migrate date from one dist to another without any problems. Oh and did I mention that the LVM howto is really really easy to understand even if you have no previous LVM experiance.
Promise makes a whole line of external enclosures that are both rackmountable and desk side. They are resonably affordable. Anything from $600 and up to ~$4000
I guess you could do it for $2k if you dropped out the hotswap, redundany power supplies and hardware RAID 5 but this is for SOHO isn't it. Has anyone used the built in motherboard raid controllers on any abit mobos? I understand that they are software. I am curious what kind of performace you can get from these babies.
So what? This isn't the first time this has happen

If you remember back a few weeks ago, there were bootleg copies of "The Matrix" on both the web and usenet. I remember a few months back that this pretty common. I know of a few people that got the SW trailers a few days earlier.
