we have a furby. never bothered to learn his name, nor replace his batteries after they died. Nonetheless he is part of our special family (college apartment) and makes the ladies swoon. We tend to have a lot of fun during social gatherings by bringing out our once chattery friend, and lighting up a butt for him, handing him a bottle of JD and a shot glass, and whatching him go work! Yeah Furby, there's a reason this thing keeps getting reposted, everyone wants to customize their furby into something special, well we did, with minimum effort, the college way.
When I setup my account on/. I noticed this little check box called jenni-cam. I was interested just because it sounded more interesting than the latest Apache development news (although i have that up too:-) ). Then I saw what it was, and thought, hmph, well lets see if she does anything interesting. Right now she's staring at her computer, as am I. Think of Jenni as a metaphorical mirror to us, she's a geek, but not a complete one, and also bored in college, as am I. So in this "world" of the internet, its cool to see that other people like me exist, just chilling, reading slashdot, drinking a cup 'o joe, waiting for the next class. At least Jenni's real, The Real World is a boring, painful to watch experience. It's a whole bunch of whiney posers that MTV selected because they knew that they wouldn't get along. Seem's like Jenni is at least trying to make an effort to add a personalized, friendly face to the net. Well, what do ya say?
Just thought I'd say i found out he's also registered for this domain, whatever help this is. There's no ip address associated with this one either:

Hey, don't knock Be on the stock market. Just because its stock doesn't jump up 200 points in the first week does not mean it performing badly. In fact yahoo, which is ready to split, has yet to show profit, as does amazon. And to even consider redhat properly valued is just laughable. Compare that to Be's value right now and you can see that at least its not going to jump around like a rabbit on crystal meth. Consider this simple comparison:
General motors (control group) price/book ratio is around 3
Yahoo's is 104
redhat's is 200
Be's is 20
While Be's is still high, its not flying off into ludricous speed, I mean, hell, yahoo's Price/Earnings is up in the thousands, compare that to GM's of 8. So I see no reason for Be to jump on the Open Source Band wagon. They're simply just trying to get their OS out now that its fully matured. I know this hurts a lot of people feelings, but Open Source is not for everybody, even if something is free. Netscape did the same thing a while back too, remember using it "for educational purposes only"? I'm a computer scientist, and I sure as hell don't want to work my butt off and make no money. The guys make one of the most quality OS's that I've seen (although briefly) and I was amazed by the near direct hardware access. Can't wait until I can get my grubby mits on it. poor college CS student that I am. Maybe be's giving it away so that I'm suckered into buying 100 copies with my own start up in five years:-). Our, to the optimists, maybe they've got something better coming out.
