  1. Incorrect Information in the article on A Million Bucks, Mach 7.6, Straight Down · · Score: 1

Since i couldn't find an email address to send this to on the website with the article, i decided to post it here, since i found out about the article here.

The article makes the comment that the fastest aircraft known to man was the United States' SR-71 Blackbird, developed during the cold war to spy on the Russians. It flew at speeds around Mach 3.1.

Unfortunately, their research wasn't all that correct. The fastest aircraft known to man, or at least not classified by any government ;-) was the X-15 A2. From the late 1950's to the early 1970's, the government and NASA funded the X-Aircraft Project. Perhaps the most famous pilot to come out of this program was Scott Yerger, who flew the X-1, the first aircraft to break the sound barrier.

The X-15 was flown by the best pilots at NASA at that time, including Neil Armstrong who flew the X-15 several times. Since this aircraft was designed for speed, it would be loaded onto the wing of a B-2 Bomber which would carry it into the air, and release it. Upon release, the engines would be fired, and speed would build until fuel ran out. The pilot then glided the plane into a landing.

To add more fuel for faster speeds to the plane, NASA added two external fuel tanks to the plane, one under each wing, that would be jettisoned once empty. It was then named the X-15 A2. The X-15 A2, to this date, is the fastest airplane known to man, reaching speeds as high as Mach 6.7. The plane has been decommissioned, and two models are on display, one at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, and one in the US Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.

  2. Slap yourselves... PLEASE! on Antitrust · · Score: 1

Of all the people that i would assume to support the movie AntiTrust, you guys just come around and say it's no good. I don't expect this to get anything higher than a score of 0, so i'm going to make this brief. Lets look at other "hacker" movies that have been out in theatres:

Hackers back in the 1990's completely got it all wrong. Nobody can sit down at a computer, after having been legally restricted from any computer until his 18th birthday, and then suddenly with 6 keystrokes hack into anything. It's not like that, you know it, i know it, and every true geek knows it.

Actually that's the only other hacker movie i can think of. i was thinking also about the movie "Masterminds" but then i realized it wasn't so much at all about computers. Hollywood did something right for a change. They made a movie about what its truely like to hack into computers, and tell what open source code is all about.

AntiTrust gets 4 out of 4 stars, and is now MY favorite movie ever, completely overthrowing movies like "The Matrix" and "Mission: Impossible - 2". And wow, there wasn't even that much action in this movie. Heck, my memory may be a little shoddy, but i don't even think i can remember a time when a gun was ever fired in the movie. (Please, if i'm wrong, let me know).

  3. Malcolm In The Middle on Ask 'They Might Be Giants' · · Score: 1

Perhaps the most famous song by these guys is the into to the Fox TV series "Malcolm In The Middle". love that show....

  4. What happens to Destination Mir now? on Mir To Crash Into Pacific · · Score: 1

So what's going to happen to the planned show "Destination Mir"? well, whatever happens to it, the guy who sold the rights to the idea sure got a helluva deal. $20 million on a show that will never be filmed? Rip-off of all time, and i think he knew it...

  5. How does Doppler effect this? on In-Flight Web Access Coming Soon? · · Score: 2

I've always wondered why the doppler effect doesn't seem to effect phones on the aircraft (even though quality does suck, which is probably the doppler effect kicking in). So if the doppler is making the quality of an airline phone terrible, how will this effect data? If it's not doppler making the phones poor quality, what is being done to combat this effect? Any ideas/answers, E-Mail me.

  6. too much of it..... on AOL Joins The Hardware Marketeers · · Score: 1

I prefer to think of AOL as "the idiot's ISP", for those who are too stupid to find things on their own, AOL just hands it out on a silver platter. too bad, because there are certain things that are limited by AOL which wouldn't be under other ISPs. Seeing the growth AOL has had within the last 15 years, from being a small internet provider, to buying Time Warner, it might be alarming at the rate of "idiots" in our country getting on AOL. Another interesting fact about AOL's purchasing Time Warner: Time Warner is a massive cable provider all over the country, and even many parts of the world. Now that AOL is aquiring Time Warner, for "some reason" they're suddenly not too interested in a flat monthly rate. wonder why....
