Do yourselves a favor and use the Preview button. I just hit submit and nearly dropped when I saw how many typos I'd made. Sheesh! Anyone got an embeddable ispell handy? David D.W. Downey RHCE, CUA/CLA Internet Security Specialist TAOS "The Sys Admin Company"

Well, I took the RHCE exam and passed. (THe author said the pass rate was 65%, it's the other way around 65% failure rate.) I worked for Red Hat in their Technical Support Department and I can say that the information in the test is growing allthe time. There is tons of it that is Linux vender non-specific, and plenty that is. I keep hearing folks say that they are tired of vender specific test. OK, then I get to complain. I'm tired of Solaris specific, NT specific, Java specific, and all the other specific tests out there. Why can't we have a network certification test? Why can't we have a General Programming certification? Why? Because these are valueless. Everyone is assumed to ahve SOME sort of base knowledge in whatever sectionof computing that they are working in. Where the chips are put down and the bets are made high is when you can show core competency AND vender specific information. Corporate suits don't care if you know about networks. Why cause you damn well better know about networks before you start trying to mess with something specific! They only care if you can install and administrate a Lotus Notes server. Can you deal with the issues relating to their Lotus Notes client setups? Can you make that NT server over there handle the authentication for their domain and the mainframe over there? There is a real and valid reason for vender specific certs. Beacuse the corporate suits, the ones that pay out the money, the ones that run the business, don't care if you know Networking 101. They only care if you know how to admin their Citrix Metaframe Server, or their IBM DB2 database server. David D.W. Downey RHCE, CUA/CLA Internet Security Specialist TAOS "The Sys Admin Company"
