  1. All Hail Slackware! on Interview w/Slackware Developer David Cantrell · · Score: 1

I think Slackware is by far the easiest to use and most sensibly packaged distro I have tried. I have been using it for about 1 year and I never even considered switching to any other distro. (Ok I tried SuSe when I first got my ata100 controller ;-)

How long until the next release and will it include anything special like Reiserfs, ata100 or USB by default?

If 2.4.0 were released tommorrow, how long would it be until we see it in a release?

Thanks for all your hard work.

  2. $600 Dollar Toilet Seats... on Should The Government Go Open Source? · · Score: 1

Another way to look at this is: the government is throwing our money away on high priced, low quality (98,NT) Software.

As taxpayers, we should demand from our representatives that this waste be stopped immediatly. This money could be better used for Social Security or the Federal Deficit for example.

Paying millions upon millions of dollars for software when there are high quality, free alternatives (Linux, *BSD, etc.) is irresponsable at best.

Why do so many people rip on Mozilla? I think it's great.

  3. The Power of Perception on Microsoft Plans Media Player for Linux? · · Score: 2

I have been having a recurring thought (nightmare) about Microsoft and what they are actually up to. Consider that Bill Gates didn't get where he is by being a fool.

Someone said recently that M$ is in a tough position because they are expected to always make a profit. I think Bill G. knew exacly what he was doing when he "integrated" the web browser. I think he knew, even wanted to be declared a monopoly. If the courts break up M$ he is the big winner.

Imagine what the market will be like when this happens: Office for every platform, yes Linux too. Windows Media Players for every platform. Internet Explorer, and on and on.

Right now, M$ is stuck in their own Windows world, they can't wait to be broken up.
