I don't HAVE an alarm. Never did have one. It's just me, and my guns. Whatever will I do if someone breaks in? Oh, woe is me, poor backwoods nobody, with no alarms, and no one to answer the alarm that I don't have!
Don't know why you're modded as flamebait - the question is reasonable. In fact, the most dedicated linux zealots kick the idea around pretty frequently.
To answer your question, to the best of my ability, new computers come with Windows preinstalled. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry - errr, excuse me - Dmitri, Andreyev, and Vladimir sees Windows the first time he ever sees a computer. The learning curve is gentle, and every damn fool in sight knows how to help you do simple tasks.
Linux has a steeper learning curve (drastically flattened in recent years, but still a bit steeper than Windows) and NO ONE in sight knows how to help you figure it out.
Once again, I point to Windows exclusivity agreements with OEM's, and say "EEEE-VILE!!"
We really need (we, the entire world) Open Source to be taught in our schools. Ban those damnable Windows boxes! Gates REALLY knew what he was doing when he created his monopoly!
"we are open to feedback on what we can do to improve in that regard."
Simple, really. Stop going after small time pirates. Hey, it's ALRIGHT to go after big time commercial "counterfeiters". I have no sympathy for someone who burns a thousand copies of Windows, for sale. But, face it - if every single high school kid in the northern hemisphere were to pirate 5 copies of Windows - Microsoft wouldn't lose a THING. Add in the southern hemisphere, and the losses would double to ZERO. (Is that cool, I just multiplied by zero, with no BSOD!)
Bill Gates, as much as I dislike him, had it right long ago. Piracy works in Microsoft's favor most of the time. If you can't trace more than 100 instances of piracy to the same source, JUST LEAVE IT ALONE!!
Morons.
"This doesn't sound like a "Simple Document" at all."
I thought I had that objection covered . . .
"and another two years or more in college learning how to make more complex documents. "
"I bought some dimmable CFLs recently (and no, I'm not going to mention a brand, because I don't believe that the brand printed on the box makes any difference with CFLs)."
Actually - the brand may make a difference. I've bought some CFL's, and made sure to get General Electric when I did so. The lighting is alright. Nothing to brag about, but alright. The wife has bought some off-brand stuff - all that she looks at is price. If one light is 3 cents cheaper than the other, that's what she is going to buy. Some of them have been truly shitty. I can SEE the flickering, and the color has to be wrong, because I simply don't SEE colors that I can see with an incandescent. (note, my color perception is all wrong to start with - the point is, those cheap CFL's make it more obvious)
Also, the life expectancy of the light is vastly different between the brands. I did a Google some time back, after one of her cheapos died. It seems that GE actually "tries" to meet standards that were written some years back, but fails to meet those standards. Other companies don't even try. As a result, her cheapo lights have burnt out in less than two months. The GE lights actually burn for half of their expected life, or more.
Slashdot needs a simpler moderation system. Just a "like" and "dislike" button, like some forums have. Yeah, I have mod points, but I've run my mouth here already, and can't mod you up, LOL
Yes, it's Microsoft's fault that you have to spend 3 or more years in high school learning how to produce a simple document, and another two years or more in college learning how to make more complex documents. Who else would you blame?

Google "iphone antenna". To my knowledge, every telephone in the world either has an antenna, or a transmission wire. How do you transmit without an antenna or a wire? Whack yourself upside your blond head, dude.
Nope. People are still hacking the Linux kernel - including Linux Thorvalds. Hacking in the "popular" context is just so much mindless drivel - much like most of the entertainment from Hollyweird. Oh yeah - that's where the "popular" definition came from - HOLLYWEIRD!!
It's not that hard to disable, really. A propane torch applied to the antenna will do it. Ooops - you melted down all the rest of the phone, and the antenna is still pretty much intact? No problem - without the rest of the phone, the antenna isn't going to broadcast anything!
Just WTF is a "former hacker"? That's like a "former scientist" or a "former student" or - -
I suppose if you accept "hacking" to mean "criminal cretin living in his mother's basement breaks into email accounts and spreads bots around the internt" - then someone COULD be a "former hacker". A real hacker never stops hacking. It's more than a way of life - it's a way of thinking!
Well, the article says it's the last MAJOR GE plant that produces household incandescents. I suspect that the plant you refer to is not very large, or they produce items other than household incandescents. Obviously, I don't know where you live, so I can only guess. I suppose that if they produce incandescent bulbs on one line, but produce other products on other lines in the same plant, they might not be a "major GE" incandescent plant.
The problem is - what was truly absurd 50 years ago was made legal 40 years ago - and what was absurd 40 years ago was made legal 30 years ago. They keep pushing the envelope, and the kids coming up are brainwashed into accepting the newest absurdity. The "rights holders" outlive the voters and the customers, so today's customers have little idea where things started out, and little idea of what is absurd!
"Rackspace doesn't want to look like douchebags by association."
I can see that. It's MUCH better to be douchebags in their own right. That way, there's no possible confusion that they really are douchebags!
Good post, AC. In fact, there were some admirable people who fought for Germany. If anyone should be interested enough to read Erwin Rommel's biography, he is one such man. He was NOT a Nazi, and he refused to join the party. His sympathies were to his NATION, not to his government. Had he been politically minded, he would have been killed much sooner than he was.
Actually - Germany probably could have won the war against Russia. I don't mean to belittle or to denigrate the efforts of the Russians - but the winter defeated Hitler as much as the Russians did. Countless German soldiers were marched into Russia, wearing summer uniforms, or uniforms fit for winters far to the south. The machinery and equipment weren't designed or maintained properly for operation in the Russian winter, either.
Had Hitler properly equipped and dressed his men, and sent the proper machinery and equipment, history would be quite different. He may or may not have beaten Russia in the end, but the story would still be vastly different.
I can go along with quibbling over numbers. No one can say for certain that there were 2 million, 4 million, or 6 million Jews killed - it MIGHT even be 8 million. If someone spends time researching, and chooses to believe the lowest credible numbers, and he decides that only 2.3 million Jews died, I'll disagree with him. No problem. I can disagree, and still respect him. It's the clowns who say that there WERE NO JEWS KILLED that I despise.
There are plenty of neonazis and nazi apologists who claim that there was no holocaust. Those, I truly hate.
This, I can respect. I don't even LIKE homosexuality, but this I can respect. If all the idjits stopped trying to be politically correct, if they stopped trying to mandate how the rest of us think, the world would be a much nicer place.
Did I mention that I hate the thought police much much more than I've ever disliked homosexuality? Time was, guys could trade freindly insults all day long. Nowadays, any mention of sex or color is likely to get you put on a list by the local busybody liberal thought police.
You might not realize this, but it's inappropriate to be a flaming gay activist everywhere you go. Real people don't give a small rat's ass what any of you think is appropriate.

Bing probably redirects the search to Google, then displays the results on their own page. Bleahhh.
Yes - the Linux instead of Linus was a typo - the Thorvalds was just stupid spelling. Thanks, though.

I saw what you did there! You substituted some foreign city for http://www.informationbirmingham.com/ and http://www.birmingham-alabama-living.com/government/ Alright, I'm a smartass. But, when I saw Birmingham, my first thought was Alabama, LOL

This happens to me sometimes. Firefox just becomes unresponsive, and I have to wait for it.

"Educate them gently." That's why I carry a billy club. A Colt .45 is just to much for some people.
