So...Germany is another country without free speech guarantee laws?
Correct. Germany, like most countries, has never recognized freedom of expression as a basic human right. Frederick the Great regularly pardoned people that violated the lese-majesty laws, but most other Germans have been less tolerant.
Article 5 of the German constitution would contradict that, but don't let facts get in the way.
Why do women, even the most intelligent ones, tend to use the word girl in their names?
Answer:
They don't.
I find it quite offensive to be called a girl no matter what the context. I cringe when allegedly grown-ups use it to describe themselves. My four year old is a girl, I am not (any more and haven't been in along time). On that note, I am not 'Miss' either. I am a grown woman who happens to be good with computers.
Well if I monitor my offspring all its waking hours (ever tried this with a 15 year old???) then I can't go to work and I am a benefits scrounger. I guess it's my fault for not having married a rich guy, but he was so cute:-)
"Emails were only checked maybe twice a day on the weekends.."
That's working and really does prove the OP point, even if it was not intended that way. I never check my email on weekends (and I like my job) and so far
it hasn't done me any harm.

On the other hand Fermilab did announce their latest results today: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-18677808
It should be pointed out that this is because the United States refuse to fully join CERN, not because of some Euro-centric protectionism.
