I don't think Linux is useless as a desktop OS, though it depends on what you want or need to do with it. There are many of us who use it exclusively as a desktop OS. I do at home.

And I really prefer doing it this way - at work I need to use Windows, and I must say I really feel I have the power on my fingertips only when using Linux (or some other unixish system). The feeling, it's like only being able to do what M$ (and other companies) thought you would like to.

Sure, it doesn't have all those new fancy games. I don't really care, because I have better and more relaxing use for my time.

Well, I can't know everything, I'm just one of those ancient Europeans who still live in tribes or something ;)

Or, said more straight: Stop that nazi-like flag waving. It makes a) you look stupid and b) less stupid people wonder if you really are as stupid as you seem.

I live in Finland, and I have two cell phones - one of my own, and one supplied by my employer. If I didn't have to carry one for work, I would only carry one. :)

It's probably not a necessity, you can do without. Neither is your Athlon/P3 a necessity, you can always play Doom instead of Quake III.

About the standard of living and eating conditions I'm not going to say much because you obviously don't know what you're talking about. (Hint: visit some US slum, then try to find one from the EU).

And yes - you are in the stone age as far as cell phones are concerned. Nyah nyah :)

Don't take me wrong. I'm a strong advocate of free speech. I think Nazi information, even outright propaganda is on the list of things which MUST be allowed. It all depends on how you define "lossy" and "lossless". Not even CD quality is as good as the original, and that's because it limits samples to 16 bits and frequencies to 22kHz (i.e. half the sampling rate). It just comes close enough for us not to be able to notice. If CD gives us the quality we need and a bit more (since practically nobody can distinguish it from the original), what's wrong with saving a few more bytes from the file size and use lossy compression with a high enough bitrate? I'm sure neither you nor anybody else here can hear the 1Hz tone anyway.
