no apps? are u really sure or did u never look? i recall several word processors, spreadsheets, databases, image programs and tons of the usual shareware stuff. if u don't believe me... well tough and i got a lot of that stuff on CD still anyway =P
And my company got its launch customer after demoing an e-commerce site (back when that word didn't exist by the way) on a 486 running Warp and Apache. It worked, the MD's demo didn't barf and the company prospered ever since. However that 486 bacame a print server running W95 and now i use a Mac. How times change, but i still have a PC at home i can put OS/2 on (i got the disks) it currently runs Linux though.
hmm is there any point to this post? no but i think OS/2 is my favourite OS of all. Its GUI is simply the best and it just had such a coolness about it. I had enough apps to do stuff at the time such as ami pro, some orrid IBM spreadsheet and stuff. WebExplorer was quite a good browser, of course there is Netscape now. its a pity its so down now, due to IBM and the infernal politics i guess. they do get a lot of revenue from it every year still anyway. maybe it'll make a comeback! woohoo!
whilst at lunch i thought up a wicked idea for a new ST series...
ST : The Klingons
yeah baby! a whole series of "klingon krap"! lots of "HUAAAA"s and "BWAHHH"s. fighting, drinking blood wine or whatever it is. every episode could be entitled some subtle variation of "It is a good day to die"
well maybe on board a starfleet ship they can't get drunk, same as in today's navies? but when they get shore leave boy those federation types know how to rumble!
Invent the replicator. Society's problems are mostly due to limited resources.
without the need to produce anything such as food and clothing people have massively more leisure time. in the ST universe the culture was for "self-inprovement" and "self-discovery". very new age but i guess if u forced it to start with after a few generations it would be second nature. with political will u can change how a whole society acts and things (see Sparta).
Only thing I'm concerned about is the look fo the starships - the old one's looked crappy compared to the new slick ones
wait until they show the old ships using the current state of the art SFX, then they might look just as good. i just hope they keep the old WW2 submarine sound effects like they had in ST:TOS during battles.
i would be a viewer for a start. ST broke through to the mainstream decades ago and has remained there. popular because it emphasises the humanity and not the technology. i guess it has many detractors because its popular arf arf
You have to give MS their due. Windows did give the masses accessibility to computing, a factor which aided the growth of the Internet and the Internet did begat Linux.
heh for real. i dunno about Windows being so good for the masses, i just that when my Dad used a CP/M computer in the 80s he was knowledgeable enough to even write a database in BASIC. now on his Windoze box he hasn't a clue, i have to fix its mangled internet settings like once a week. not being a Windows user myself (MacOS and Linux la la la) i find Windows pretty difficult to use compared to other OS.
1) the install is not so hard, actually i did have a web page how to do it but at the moment i am in the middle of an update so its not available but it should be back by the end of the week
2 ) i have no idea, i guess so but i use BootX anyway
3) well i can see both from either OS but i don't try to write to the other partition, there are dangers and i have no pressing need. to see HFS from Linux just use mount, to see ext2 from MacOS i use a nifty extention i can't remember the name of (i dun have the iBook w/ me ATM)
anyway if u want to install Linux on an iBook go for it because it makes a really nice box, mail me if u want advice
well i use LinuxPPC as its the only thing to run on an iBook AFAIK, but i intend to try BSD on my iMac, actually i ordered the CD w/ 1.4.1 yesterday and today they announce 1.4.2 =P
some things r just too dumb to bother refuting
please leave then if it bothers u so much! your post was full of dubious stereotypes. sorry but i get the feeling you don't get out much.
is that the one where the guy gets his penis badly damaged and gets a huge new one? quite good series but very long.
don't you mean DOING BIRD?
other than being WIMP i can't see much similarity between WPS and X

i think the new Dax host in the later DS9 is very cute
uhh why have u got to throw the mac away to use unix?

Apple sponsors world terrorism? disgraceful. steve jobs should be arrested for being anti-american.

none of those as good as buckaroo banzai across the 8th dimension!
i don't know why people get so het up about it, if someone makes a bad remark about your computer it not exactly going to stop it working issit?

but as the situation changes all the time it may be that YDL works now, i diud try Debian and that didn't work which is a pity
it sucks!

who cares what M$ do? it sucks yes, so better if Linux doesn't ape it
