And my company got its launch customer after demoing an e-commerce site (back when that word didn't exist by the way) on a 486 running Warp and Apache. It worked, the MD's demo didn't barf and the company prospered ever since. However that 486 bacame a print server running W95 and now i use a Mac. How times change, but i still have a PC at home i can put OS/2 on (i got the disks) it currently runs Linux though.

hmm is there any point to this post? no but i think OS/2 is my favourite OS of all. Its GUI is simply the best and it just had such a coolness about it. I had enough apps to do stuff at the time such as ami pro, some orrid IBM spreadsheet and stuff. WebExplorer was quite a good browser, of course there is Netscape now. its a pity its so down now, due to IBM and the infernal politics i guess. they do get a lot of revenue from it every year still anyway. maybe it'll make a comeback! woohoo!

    the key is...

Invent the replicator. Society's problems are mostly due to limited resources.

without the need to produce anything such as food and clothing people have massively more leisure time. in the ST universe the culture was for "self-inprovement" and "self-discovery". very new age but i guess if u forced it to start with after a few generations it would be second nature. with political will u can change how a whole society acts and things (see Sparta).

wait until they show the old ships using the current state of the art SFX, then they might look just as good. i just hope they keep the old WW2 submarine sound effects like they had in ST:TOS during battles.

heh for real. i dunno about Windows being so good for the masses, i just that when my Dad used a CP/M computer in the 80s he was knowledgeable enough to even write a database in BASIC. now on his Windoze box he hasn't a clue, i have to fix its mangled internet settings like once a week. not being a Windows user myself (MacOS and Linux la la la) i find Windows pretty difficult to use compared to other OS.
