Uuh I dont think so I'm using mozilla, and i'm seeing the popup lists with little scrollbars in my gtk theme, so they must be using gtk for more than just 'low level drawing'. sure, its not used for menubars, back/forward buttons and the browser scrollbar, but have a look at the buttons, lists, etc IN the html page... those are gtk controls!
as a developer, i'd love to write all my apps for linux, however to allow my apps to run on everyone's computer (and use C, legacy software), i gotta write for windows. cause windows users use windows, but linux users use both linux and windows (here they do anyway).
with line, i can write my software for linux, and then thats it! woo hoo i've been waiting for something like this for a long time! suddenly porting apps is a non-issue, and as linux is open, it should be a LOT easier to write line than wine, so i dont have to wait a decade for wine to work with all my apps:/
So go back to some MS IE for the moment and wait until mozilla is working fine.
people with no patience for problems should not even bother with bleeding-edge software, especially if they dont intend to help or do anything about it.
using mozilla is an honour, and we should all be bowing down to the mozilla developers, because they are supporting the minority that microsoft will not.
> In this specific case, just build a mozilla with edited browser type.
isn't this dick's reason for rejecting NS is because it doesn't support data-binding, etc?
changing the browser type won't make it work with these technologies, it just extends the time before you realise you can't do business with these guys because you don't run M$ IE...
dmorin, you have said what I have been yelling at my screen while reading earlier posts, but in a much nicer way!
Go the binary, get the.deb/.rpm, and you have a (mostly stable, especially with potato) working program straight away. if theres a problem, talk to the author or go get the source... 99.9% of the time there is no problem.
running 'make install' won't help you understand anything about the source, you must spend time to read and track the source. considering i have over 800 packages installed, the compile-all approach would only work will on a 486 with a 100mb hd.

I think he was saying that because he thinks (or hopes) its bug-free, it will compile... (or bugfree enough to compile... no syntax, etc errors)
:P
NOT that it compiles, so its bug-free... understand?
Linus is a bit beyond CS101, so please give him some respect.
