    the same thing as M$ does today. If M$ is so bad, just make another company just like them. Watch M$1 try to kill M$2 by changing file formats all the time! Watch M$2 try to kill M$1 by making IE incompatible with windows! watch them both die!

    It's good to be able to look off the screen (for some reason it seems easier to read a book). Right now screen space is important, and no program i've seen has included a help system that didn't waste screen space (well, maybe counterstrike, but it just uses short messages on the screen ('you have killed an enemy')). But if you do rely on online help, you need it to be easy to use and include everything that would be in a manual. A book-form help system would be useful (with table of contents, logical organization, index..).

    OK, try that with this (sorry for any errors, i dont really use printf):

    As you can see, it doesn't work. A program that uses multiple threads could easily be separated.

    No no no, you don't understand. They don't care about the satellite code. They want to Open Source the actual sattelites. They want everyone to be able to download their own Iridium satellites, and make modifications as long as the modified version is distributed with the GPL. They were tired of paying extra money to make Iridium Satellites that would send and much radiation as possible at any telescope detected, so they want Open Source satellites.
    They're fighting for our right to make a satellite that can Iridium Flash every observatory on a whole continent at the same time!

    All you need to do is write a program that will produce every possible combination of characters (starting at 5 characters, then 6, then 7, and so on). Then you put it through a spell checker to eliminate the completely random characters, filter out everything that doesn't have the word "prime", and read all the combinations generated to see what works.

    I think there hasn't been a linux virus because it isn't popular yet. Windows has thousands of viruses because nearly everyone uses it, but linux isn't affected by them and no one has bothered to make a linux virus. Or maybe all the potential linux virus makers went and made a better kernel or something usefull :)

    If you're talking about unix running on servers, ignore this, it probably will change to distributed computing. But if you're talking about unix and linux running on all computers, you're wrong people (more specifically, me) will always want a personal computer running a stable OS that does what they need and can be customized to work better for them, even when their work computer is a bunch of peripherals connected to the LAN.

    Is there any tutorials or something to learn these things without taking classes? I know Windows programming, but i would like to learn Linux application and kernel programming.

    That would be like using Windows and linux on the same computer. I play games, write programs, run normal applications, see what i can do without blowing up my computer, and just about everything you can do on a computer. This is why computers will always be better than consoles--you can only play games on a console. and consoles dont have GeForce. :)

    The extra file attributes sound like a great idea, but what could really help would be to have categories, like on the yahoo main page. If you were looking for that SDK you downloaded a year ago, you could chose to see only files in the Computers->Development category, or something like that. This really should be added to GUIs; it could save a lot of time. Another idea would be to use these extra attributes in searches, and put comments or keywords on a files, to help find it or figure out what the hell it is and why you downloaded it.

    I use windows 98, and i usually have times when i find it takes too long to get where i want, but i can't think of any easy solution. What i would like is to save a desktop state, that will store the information about what programs are open and what they are doing, and then restore it later. That would help a lot.

    Some people only use their computer for word processing and that king of thing, but i play a lot of games, and I want to run at the highest detail setting with a good framerate. The average user can stick with their 500-600MHz CPUs, but some of us do need (or at least want) something faster. But even if you aren't playing games or running SETI@Home, it never hurts to get a better computer because it will run faster and last longer.

    I have a P3-450, and i might upgrade soon, so i would want one of the fastest chips, but it seems that P3 motherboards dont work for Athlons. Is this true for all motherboards?
