Quite a few legit charities don't want food or clothing. The logistics of storing and transporting said goods from donation point to point of need is nightmarish and expensive! Think of the fuel required to truck food and clothing from California to LA. Now think of how much less it would cost to procure those items 100 miles from where they are needed and transport them...
